So christmas is gift time and I have been given a new cellphone, a socalled smartphone.
Now after installing a sim card from my old dumb phone something called Google account is tryng to force me to deal with it and click this and that and when I try to click my way away from his goole thingy it's like refusing to go forward. I do not want no google account to follow me there also, it's bad enough it's following me on my laptop.
So are my options A: go back to my dumbphone or is there a B: you can use your "smartphone" while also skipping anything that has to do with a "google account"? Uncle Google say I can not download apps from google app store if I don't give them access to my device and me agreeing to their terms.. but frankly I want no apps from them. For the time being at least I just wanna call and sms. If I want some app at one point I'll make sure it's either not a google app or if it is I'll agree to their invisive terms then.
But does that render the phone useless (if I refuse Goole account on it)? Any tech nerds out there who know if Google Account has to be running on your smartphone for it to work? This is Android by the way. Thanks.
I am far from tech nerd but I know that Android is safer than iphone. I also hate that Google account being demanded but hey, we are not giving away any more than we have already given. Go for it. If you want to learn more about safety, check some videos on YouTube, There are some settings iphones can not have changed, like tracking and other connected to your activity.
I been annoyd for 24h already hehe... he thought he was doing me a favor this friend who gave it to me, brand new and all hehe. I hate the whole thing. Who allowed some mega firm to decide for you if you want anything to do with them cos you bought a new phone... arrogant init. Who the hell is Google? What has that got to do with a phone? Who let the dogs out
Thanks Ten for your input. I guess I only have two options yes.
By the way- when I got a google account to begin with... it must have happened under my radar.
It started by me having a 'gmail' email account. True that is an acount and it is called gmail. Then in the mids of a dark riany night... suddenly I woke up and had a Google account and now that is your new god! -that is following eny member of society, every step you take like Sting once sang. How did this happen hmm?.... That worries me even more than the UK pollice...

I know how you feel, been there too. Google is the one who decides what you gonna find when you search for something. It will push you in a directions that has been controlled. I watched an interview with Google executives that said they are given "advice" from governments and corporations how to navigate your interests. You don't even need to type in search, just have a conversation about something with someone and it will start popping up on your screen.
Edward Snowdon mentioned that when he worked for the CIA they only used dumbphones. Not that I have much to hide, but it's the principle of having some privacy init.
T-Mobile tricked me into buying a Samsung Galaxy. Worst piece of junk ever. Do you like touchscreen. I have it turned off on my laptop. The one on the Galaxy is far worse. Just holding it so that an edge is near the skin of the hand can trigger one of their stupid shortcuts (landmines). I will take a hammer to it when I get the time to find something less contrived--but they all think their gimmicks are so much desired. A world ruled by salesmen.
Mine screw on the light without my concent, well that drains the batt...
I deffo like the old good phones! Actually I bougth one more Nokia for 20$... just yday. No bull, no addiction, no 'smartness' etc... or some mega company a la google come waltzing expecting you to say "YES" at whatever they throw at you, things you don't need.

I would suggest going to the nearest store that services your phone and have them walk you through this. They can help you with backing up contacts and stuff. It can be done. But one wrong move on your part doing this can cost you to lose some information you want to keep. Your contacts, calendar etc is usually google run. Your service provider can advise you on which apps that will be lost and if there is a way you can replace them without using google. I have google. You are right it is quite invasive yet in todays time we have so many other entities out there that are watching that we never give a thought to
