You can sing the ABC song: Ah Bay see dee ay ef gay, hah ee yot kay el em en oh pay, koo- ipsilon und set--it breaks down at the end. But there's little to be gained there.
I spent a few weeks in Germany and already had 4 years of it in college; unfortunately the Germans preferred to practice their English on me.
German is not a difficult language for English-speaking people--the part of English not corrupted by French due to William the Conqueror (nice Viking but two generations too long on the Continent) comes from German. We have things in common: Sie (zee) = thee = you, et al.
And that last is Latin, a good language which French decayed from.

My dad was born in Germany. When I was born, mom wanted him to teach me German. He said no..she is an American and that is its language. She has no need to learn German. He said English was the hardest language to learn. When I went into town high school, I wanted to take it. But, had missed the first year that was taught in 8th so couldn't. I took Latin and then Spanish. Never figured that Spanish would become Americans language!
He was right in so many ways. English has become the universal language across the globe. It amazes me that so many foriegn people are bi-lingual and in the US, so many cant even speak proper English!
