spikkels999: You know a lot of people, not good at words, that use fancy words, that they believe makes them look clever...
It's exactly the opposite...
I knew someone once who had a mouth full of fancy words I'd never heard before. I would get so lost in conversations and would just be like hmmm as not to feel foolish. After a bit I started writing down strange words they said to look it up later. Turns out,, they were all made up! They didn't exist anywhere except for in their head.
It was just a tactic to seem super intelligent so I started doing the same thing and would just ramble off whatever gibberish came to mind whenever we spoke... This nut would actually agree with whatever I said and then add to it.. People are so silly sometimes.
The American-English vocabulary is just so esoteric. Regardless whether you can baffle other people with brilliance or befuddle them with bull sheet, I’m told increasing one’s vocabulary can’t hurt one’s communication skills or Integrity.

Are you going to tackle grammar and punctuation simultaneously, or leave them for another decade?

Someone here (unnamed) was speaking about President Adams with an IQ of, oh 170 something long long before Binet introduced the idea ... it's a number for verbal, number and spatial acuity I remember sitting in the high school hall taking this test - the language and number stuff was too easy, the spatial stuff not quite so. The result came back 144+ and my parents asked 'what is the +?' but the reply was 'needs another test'. Who cares!? The number is correlated with but no guarantee of performance. I recall being bemused by the test, but being competitive by nature, considered how I could get over say 200 - I was 14 or thereabouts, remember. The number itself never influenced anything! But who in recent history mentioned it? Considered it significant?
In politics it's deliberately done. It is an artform to talk for twenty minutes without saying anything and not really commit to anything said while sounding like you do...all while hiding behind complicated words.
Same with the News reporters lately. Have you noticed how they state things as facts while its really just opinions, but the hide it with ' might, possible and maybe's and other fancy words that basically mean the same thing. Journalism is dead. It's all Propaganda on the news today.
When people try to rush me into buying something and use fancy words when trying to get me to do what they ask, I step back and put back my wallet in my pocket and say 'I'll think about it.'

Using some drugs, make you imagine, you are the most clever, and ramble, what only you and your fellow drugged understand...and they do understand each other...but can hardly remember anything after....wish I was a microphone in their brains...interesting for a short period...hypnosis...Isn't Elon Musk doing something about the human brain & pigs...?
jac_the_gripper: The thing is, it's difficult to know what a fancy word is if it's a perfectly normal and exquisitely expressive word to you.
I rather admire people who are specialists in their fields, but can explain it to others in plain English. It's a skill not everyone has.
Is it fair to berate others for their lack of ability in the art of plain English, even if they try to learn?
My ex is from the UK, and I understand British English very well, know some Irish / Welsh / Scottish as well. Know their ways and attitudes. They do believe that they are the superior race...Good for them, but my kids are half-half and takes after mommy luckily...

I will start talking IT and see how well you understand that....? Integrity is felt, not spoken... Communication is done with your whole body, not written on a website... Luckily I can read between the lines...!!!

I have seen this info before... People only repeat their IQ scores...to irritate others...and thus downgrade it significantly...

I believe most politicians come from the Legal profession...?

English is the largest language in the world for both native and non-native speaker so forgive us if we "prevaricate" on occasions.
