Dinner is a bad idea for a first date.
But the worst idea is going to the movies. Sitting in the dark in silence, getting to know each other, yeah, right.
Meet for a walk in a park and probably grab a quick bite and a coffee later if you get that far in enjoying each other's company.
She (your date) wanted to see how much she can get away with.
Never mind the age, you can well be tried and tested by an older wannabe "queen" all the same.

I disagree...Cups...sometimes it is a blessing not to talk too much as it can be a bit intimidating...first date jitters. However, that was just an example of a relatively inexpensive date if the man is paying...and if you do not like what you see...say goodbye...consider it a blessing...yes it is dark in the theater but it is a public place...safety is a concern for some...

I doubt older individuals are looking for a rich date...I think most would want someone who is similar in status whether it be financial, social or education...

I do not have a lot of baggage...but I do like an exit strategy...

That's just fine, Lou,
we all have different opinion on what is more appropriate on a first date.
I find it much easier to part in a nice way while walking and not wondering how to escape if in cinema or restaurant.
Older woman doesn't mean financially secure woman.
We should allow some room for different scenarios when it comes to other people and not assume most are like us. wine

You have pointed out very sage observations. I also wondered, 'if it wasn't all that of a big deal, why mention it so much'?, but in all fairness, OP was just tossing about some thoughts....we've all had these sorts of things. Want to hear mine? It's similar, in a way...(It won't take too long.....)

DoxieDad2: So recently I went out with this young lady. She was 35 and very attractive. We have go for dinner and she orders a $35 glass of wine. I thought okay, strike one. And then she orders about $200 worth of food and barely eats any of it.
I go ahead to tell her this is not going to work out and call her a cab. I pay the bill and walk away only to be screamed at, called cheap and I wake up this morning being put on blast. So I ask all of you, whats the deal, did I do wrong here?

My position is simple, I say I should have hit the eject quicker and let her pay for her own $200 meal. But no, I opted to pay the bill and walk away.
You sure did. It's called bragging on line.comfort

Hey, if it doesn't take all day...go ahead...enlighten us all...

In regards to the OP's complaint...coffee and a chat would solve the issue...if she was after his money...she would say no...or give him a few rolling men...laugh

Oh sweety, there has been some sage advice shared by a few here. But then those are just none of your posts. You have spent your time trying to diagnose me, twist reality and missing oh so many points. But it is okay, you have made me laugh so much that I look forward to your next comment. But I will just have to wait as it is 3am here. Just getting in from a great evening with a 32 year old. Tuesday night is an odd date night but it was so worth it. Oh and me sharing about tonight's date is actual bragging. Seeing as I have been accused of bragging I figured why not. I mean she is 32 with the body of a 20 year old, well educated and smokin hot. peace

Yet more bragging. Reminds me of Shania Twain That don't impress me much.

Someone pointed this thread out to me. It sound fake, like someone trying to establish a narrative they can point to if or when someone who knows both parties approaches them about a totally negative report from the woman in question. The writer could then say;

'Oh no, I put up a thread about why I only had the one date with her and posted it the very same night, look, here it in CS. See, it isn't that I made rude comments or offered obscene suggestions during dinner, it was because she just wanted my money, so I walked away. How dare she say I touched her inappropriately. That's just andger because her scheme didn't work.'

So we pulled up online the Norrthport, Albama area, We learned all the good ones (in like a 70 mile radii) also had online websites with menus and prices and reviews. Looking we couldn't find a single one that charged more than $13 for a single glass of wine. In most cases a glass of House wine was about $6. More expensive wines are sold by the bottle, not the glass. Meal menus were pulled. If my memory of last night is correct the most expensive meal we found (in Mobile) was one places Porterhouse combo for about $70. I guess we supposed to believe she ate 2 of those (huge) steak dinners (that come with salad and side veggies included) and had multiple deserts on top of that?

In real life, with varying experiences, over the past decade I have had several 1st dates (and a few 2nd and 3rd) dates with women I have met online. Always the meet and greet in a public place, a cup of coffee or a McD burger, swap driver's licenses to confirm the name is what you were told, then talk and go on from there.

But yes, if you already know who it is, someone known from work or a connvention or seminar, I have done those dates too. 1st date straight to Red Lobster or Chili's (RIP Chili's), and I have yet to have one of those break $140 for both of us. Okay, one time, multiple decades ago when my money came in fast and it still flew I took a 1st date to Paris on the SST (it wasn't bad, there was a price war, $125 a ticket) and we ate in sight of the Eiffel Tower and spent the night at a friend's apartment. Great date. She is still a friend. Cost $800, bur I I was young and I could afford it then.

There is of course a 3rd option. Everything is a fantasy Forum post. If is true there is a whole lot missing from the complaint. Let us see, you paid for her wine (bottle) and her 2 entree meals and the desert. Then you amicably paid for her taxi. In response she called you a cheap person? You left something out obviously. Exactly what was it you were being cheap about? Did you refuse to allow her an additional desert? Did you make her leave the tip? Please fill in the missing action on your part that was so offensive she started calling you names.

OK. Back in the 1980's I wanted, or thought I wanted, to date ladies. But my life had been somewhat of a 'wallflower', and I didn't find personal relationships to be easy to find, or make, etc...However, I belonged to a music club, and was invited to a camp-gathering of like-minded wanna-be beatniks who liked acoustic music. It was a success, mostly, and there were three contra-dances. A very lovely lady wanted to dance with me, and during the long weekend we became very close. We worked in the same field, and had many like- interests. She insisted on giving me her phone number. About a week after the event, I called to ask her on a formal dinner date. She readily and enthusiastically said "yes", and showered me with very complimentary verbiage. I was in Heaven. So, I arrived at the restaurant, fresh flowers from the most expensive florist in Portland, and a box of Godiva chocolates. She was absolutely delighted, took my hand, and we sat down. After some small talk, the dinners were served. She asked, "So, what is it that you feel brings us together", of course smiling that sweet creamy butter smile lovely ladies have. I said,
"I'm just very fond of you. You've come into my life at a good time, for me, anyway". As I was starting to take a bite, she said,
"Well, I need to tell you that I'm involved with (XX), and he and I have been seeing each other for quite awhile, so it's not going to be the kind of romance you want".
I was polite. Unable to finish dinner, I waffled through the rest of the evening. So, I understand that one cannot assume anything, however, it was wrong of her to accept a dinner date knowing she had no interest in really dating. I will always think and feel this way----it was disingenuous of her. It's wrong to not be up front. hug
