If it wasn't so surprising I might laugh at this lazy guy who doesn't want to do his job. Called a Federal Office to get some help with a few questions on a form to satisfy my mortgage company. Well, he said he wasn't going to help so thanked him and wished him a good day. Called back and got a female who was more than happy to help. --Found out that a local retailer did away with customer service so when you call the store you do not get anyone in the store. Looked on line and saw they had the item. There were only a few customers in the store, but picked up my electronic item which was a great deal. --One local Retail Store must have caught on as this last week as the self help checkouts have chatty Customer Service people now and one male who always was deaf can actually hear now when someone is talking. Never thought Robotic behavior was part of Customer Service.

Opinions about Customer Service needed and know we will hear about those Credit Card Companies where it takes 10-15 minutes to actually reach a live person when you pushed at least 3 buttons and got disconnected

Ha! You want to get angry about customer service, call the Veteran's Administration. It literally takes you months make an appointment. Followed by more months for the date to arrive. And then they cancel the appointment and get give you no recourse to reschedule.

If that is your primary health care, you are a dead man. I pay for my health care, but I had to deal with them on occasion. The Doctors and core staff are great folks. They need to fire all the administrators and start over.

You walk with your wallet and feet if you can. I will not do business with a place with useless employees.

So very sorry you are going through this. Here in Oregon, for some reason the VA issues have really been stepped up--in my region (Oregon south coast) there are housing projects, medical help, monetary help, jobs programs. It may not be ideal, but it's better than I hear in most places. Hint--find a sympathetic congressman or woman, or state senator who handles these--perhaps someone who is just getting his or her feet wet--new to public works. There's assistance--you just have to be diligent. Good Luck!!handshake

Not sure where you are getting your information, but back in the day if you gave bad service the manager was all over it. If you needed your job you better do it right

The second you hear or see the words such as "Your call is important to us", you know you're in trouble. If my call or question is so important, try staffing up accordingly! And I don't care whether you're a gov't. agency or a for-profit business, get on with it! And fix your websites that your IT people INSISTED had to be mobile-capable even though many people still use desktops and laptops, but "it'll be cheaper to do it for all mobile users".

I won't even ask store staff for help in U.S. retail stores; near me outside Chicago they are understaffed and overworked as it is. Today I had a big-box employee warn me that a display was so disorganized and unstocked that the item I pick might not even be on the right hook (small hardware items), so I'd also see the wrong price. I thanked her and asked what miracles management expected her and her fellow employees to do today, being understaffed and the department she was was in not even having time to get everything done. She just kind of shook her head, grimaced, and said "You know it!".

Gov't agencies are so much of a gamble as well, but sometimes they also are way understaffed against their workload, not always trained properly due to understaffing, and some just could care less as long as they get paid. They don't want to give out wrong information fearing discipline, so they'd rather not tell you anything. A buddy just had a miracle worker at a motor vehicle services department; actually was very helpful and got his problems solved in one trip. But the US Postal Service recently said it left Certified Mail notices it never left; I complained to the USPS. I told the woman I spoke to I didn't want people disciplined for honest errors, and maybe the letter carrier of the day (we get whoever shows up) didn't even have the notice forms with them. Sure they should have them, but the real world gets in the way of the Postal Manual sometimes. At least the final notice got to me, I got the mailpiece....but Cliff Clavin of 'Cheers' postal fame would never have stood for such a mess.

Not understanding about the length of time taken as Customer Service has always been very important to a successful business and should be the #1 priority. Lack of training is an issue, but not caring about the company you work for is pretty bad. Giving a customer no answer to a question and stating that an item may be carried in the future without even assisting the customer in locating it. Then the customer finds the item and imagine what happens next. Out the door!

I work in customer service....

Companies can not get people to work...

So, the ones who are working are short staffed, and put up with rudeness from customers...

People who can not get off their phones...run out to the car and retrieve their debit cards..that they left in the car...and expect a line of customers to wait for their stupidity...

It is a me me world...

I always treat those who check me out, serve me at restaurants, or help me over the phone with courtesy...

Amazing what good service I get.

I hear you. I do want to describe a situation, and ask that you, and/or anyone reading it, understand exactly 'why' the public doesn't feel like tolerating poor or lacking public service. While working for a major HMO, some of us nurses and techs were frustrated and annoyed with a manager who just wasn't at all up to par. He had a career which had a managing board, specifically for that post. ALL of us (7) called that board. When I called, the board chair answered. I began by telling her I (and documented other licensees) had a formal complaint regarding _____. There was a slight pause, and she could be heard sighing heavily. She was anything but helpful. She didn't want to take the information. Oh, now that's hunky-dorrie, isn't it?? It's her JOB to do exactly what we were asking. Her JOB. THAT'S why people get upset.

I'm afraid you're correct. I still think people should complain if and when it happens. Look at it this way--if I were to show up at the hospital, and say, "You know, I only want to be assigned to the friendly, nice patients. And, no wound care. I only want to hand out the medications. And, no helping turning patients. It annoys me." Now, what do you suppose my director will say to me??laugh

We have a HOTLINE to call where I work...It is supposed to be confidential, but it is not..How do I know...A co-worker called and it got back to the manager...

And, yes, the manager retaliated by nit picking everything she did...

We all saw it...and, the next time the district manager came in..we told him...

They handled it, by moving the manager to a different store...

In your situation, I would ask to speak to someone above her...and file a formal complaint regarding this...

Or, maybe call a few days later...maybe, she was having a rough day...

True. I guess sometimes I get my hackles up because so much was expected and required of me--no one seemed to want to give me any consideration. I survived it 32 years. handshake

Customer service is very spotty.

i've had some good luck and also bad, the same as most every one i think.

not sure which is worse at times. the older people that maybe have been doing it too long or the younger people that don't understand what it is they're supposed to be doing.

one thing for certain; with all the "AI" they're trying to insert into the service, don't expect it to improve much. maybe expect it to get worse instead.

in which case we should adjust our business dealings accordingly. when you find that good or better customer service, maybe they deserve your business more then the others. forget loyalty. if the service is bad, they've forgotten you.

i've been doing that quite a bit over the last couple of years. made some major changes because the actual service was better than some i'd been with for years. even decades in one particular case. seems like many institutions for get they need us more than we need them for a great many things.

good luck to all with customer services when you need them.hope they help you like they're supposed to.grin
