TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- New Jersey is warning residents to limit their consumption of squirrels killed near a toxic waste dump.
Many residents of Ringwood are members of an Indian tribe who hunt and fish in the area.
A squirrel contaminated with lead was found there two months ago.
State officials sent out letters advising that adults who eat squirrels should eat no more than two a week, children and pregnant women are told to eat even fewer.
I guess you guys in New Jersey will have to try possum.
It's a good thing that they alerted the media on this. If I were spending my time hunting food for my tribe I know I would make sure to read the newspaper for recipes.
I never have, and never will eat a squirrel. Hamsters or rats either. But when I was in elementary school, a girl came from down south, and said that her mom had made her "squirrel brains" for lunch. Do people really eat that or was she just pulling my leg?
