Is it ok to get the ring back? ( Archived) (38)

I broke up with my fiance a little while ago and I asked for the ring back and she said no. She said that once I put that on her finget that it was a gift from me to her. I told her that the ring was a contract for marriage and without the marriage that she doesn't deserve the ring. Every male that I've talked to said that I was right. Every female said that I was wrong. I asked her why she would even want the want to keep the ring if she had already admitted to even going to wear it? She really didn't have a response. "Well because" was pretty much what she could come up with. So, what do you think?

I think she should give it back. A ring is a contract for marriage in my mind too. Therefore, if marriage is off… the ring should be off as well. But that’s only if she’s called off the marriage. If you have just decided you’ve had enough and she wasn’t in agreement with that… Then in all fairness you should simply allow her to keep it. But if she called it off for no reason. Then get your ring back.

The ring is always to be given back if no marriage takes place. Go to her parents and let them know your intention; that she doesn't understand.

But you did give it to her. Contract for marrage or not, you did give it to her. If she gives it back that is one thing. I mean, the ring was meant for her after all.

Now, if it was a family heirloom....I would say definitly take it back. But if it was just bought, then it was bought for her....that is kind of the risk you take I am afraid.

I dunno man, tough one to call really. Me; I would let her keep it. What do I want it for? I wouldn't give it to someone else. I wouldn't want to hold onto the memory either. If she gave it back to me without me having to ask, I might just take it to the store and return it, or give it to one of my sisters...they like jewelry. But a gift is a gift....and shouldn't be taken back. Just my opinion....

Not that it matters, since I have a mark around my finger that's been there a year now. Stupiid thing won't go away...

We pawned both rings. I am not sure what that means.
