WHO DOES ONE BELIEVE? (11)

I saw on the news that South Africa is going to cull 8,000 Elephants in the near future, because of their over population in the Game Parks. In the same article, it is stated that last year 700 Elephants were "lost" to Poachers for their Ivory... 7% of the population.

Now, this does not make any sense to me! Why worry about a mere 700 animals killed ilegally, and then go out and shoot 8,000?

In this months National Geographic Magazine, environmentalists state that the herds of another nearby African country have dwindled to 10,000. DWINDLED... due to poaching.

In the same NGM article was mentioned the "slaughter" a few months ago of 100 Elephants.... as though this was a catastrophe?

Then..... on a TV programme, other environmentalists stated that, if left alone, Elephants, by trampling trees and "destroying" areas, are actually helping the earth to recover, providing soil covering to absorb water to supply underground reservoirs.

Howcome all these guys dont get together, and make some sort of congruent plan? Is this massive planned slaughter just to gain some revenue for the government coffers?... or pandering to the Chinese who desperately want the Ivory...... like the Chinese are ignoring S.I.T.E.S and planning on harvesting 8,000 Minky Whales later this year, during their breeding season?

EXACTLY why I posted this thread...... They dont say what the population is where they going to cull the 8,000.. the exact location and number of herds. The herds totalling the 10,000 is in another area ... different country.

8,000 Elephants is one hell of a lot of meat... PLUS 16,000 new Ivory Tusks! Bearing in mind that Africa is now Completely in the hands of the Indigenous Folk, is this the beginning of the end of the African Elephant? If so, then its also the beginning of the end of All Wildlife. And with the extinction of Wild Animals, it will also be the beginning of the end of the local indigenous humans. Maybe not such a catastrophe at all.... in the long run?

But... why is the news given to the public so garbled and non-sensical? Does no-one monitor what is posted as "news"? Thats, to my way of thinking, a certain way to numb the minds of people, that we end up taking no notice?

Entire herds are shot. The traumatised youngsters are sold to international zoos. A young elephant depends on learning from the Matriarchs.... they cannot grow up alone and fend for themselves.

The public should, in the ideal world, boycott ALL zoos and circuses where wild animals are held in captivity.

Yeah, and I guess in the big picture of who dominates everything.... WHY WORRY? Who realy cares what happens to the Elephants.... at least one day their misery will come to an end I guess. Aint anything I can do about it... Sorry for raising the issue here.
