As of 2/27/2007 I have been terminated to pay any more child support. That means it is all paid off and I will have an extra $220.00 a month that is not coming out of my paycheck. Yippee!!! I am going to have the freakin letter framed. Just a little 'x' in a box but geez I feel like I have been freed, lol. I always wondered what the last letter would look like. That means I get to have my own tax refunds.

Thank you. My daughter just turned 19 2/24/07 so now I can file for parent support. Just kidding. She works two full time jobs and makes more than I do. The job economy made my back support take longer to pay but the main thing is that she is ok. She took a semester off from college or otherwise I would still be paying. Now that I have some extra money I might be even able to have gas money to go see her. The funny thing is I am 50 and still bum money from my mom. So far she hasn't cut me off but always expects me to pay her back. So far my credit is still good with my mom.

Well, I think anybody would rather see money coming to you and I did cop an attitude at first but the thing that I was told and agreed with is that you have to do what is best for the child. Paying child support is a way of saying I love you even though your mom and I don't get along.

It might not sound right but I am sad for his loss. Of course, you can see that. I have gotten to talk to mine on ims. My mom said my daughter tried to call me when my phone was turned off. My daughter was buming from her mom while I was bumming from my mom but then got two jobs and told her mom and her momma's momma that she would just do it on her own. My daughter has her daddy's attitude. I know what a terrible thing to give to a child, lol.

Much to my surprise, my ex put all my child support payments into her college fund. My daughter is 19 and in college. (She also has a part time job) So I'm cool with that.

Yeah and I hope a lot of dads that are paying or are trying to raise the child answer this thread so show that all dads are not deadbeats. Let's see some good role models respond.

Adults can fend for themselves, kids can't
This is in response to Ethel Mae's letter about child support issues ("Child support laws need revamping," March 2). Ms. Mae, it is both parents' responsibility to support their children. You said, "There is no incentive for these men to do the right thing." What incentive do they need? They made a child and someone should reward them for taking care of their kid? I don't think so!!

You also state that "back child support is now a felony and called child neglect." This is true when their back support has reached a very large amount. This does not happen if someone misses a few payments! Yes, child neglect, that is exactly what it is called when you don't feed and provide for your child and I think it's one of the best things this state can do to help collect support for children!! Custodial parents cannot miss several weeks of caring for their children; what gives the other parent the right? If the noncustodial parent chooses not to pay child support, then jail is a great place for them to sit.

Now I present the incentive to keep up on child support payments: You won't go to jail, won't lose your job, won't lose your license and you won't be charged with neglect! Seems like a logical "incentive" to me! Oh, and the best incentive: The child benefits from this extra income to pay for needed things. One income can only go so far these days!

The best way for young men to not find themselves in this position is to do the right thing and take care of their child. This is true for women, too, who do not support their children. Maybe you should turn your concern to the children who are the victims in this case. Adults can fend for themselves, kids can't!

Good story. Yeah, I know I never got a brownie button for paying mine but have gotten some kudos from women who received no support. I have noticed how expensive it is for me to make it in this world on my paycheck and it is just logical that a single parent trying to raise kids and support herself would be harder than what I have it.

I think its great that you take care of your kid!! My oldest hates her father...but then again she is 15, and I think she hates everything!! My little one just adores her dad but he could care less. Although he does pay his support faithfully, he cant bother to take a call from her, show up at her extra cirricular's ...or even bother to send a birhday or christmas card and he lives here in the same town!!

I even offered him to drop his cash payments if he would just be her dad....But that would take too much time away from the girlfriend I guess!!

Anyway! Congrats!!applause cheering
