unconditional love like I better. To be tough leads to
resentment and a barrier. But you have more experience
then I so you probably know better. conversing

So does the saying stand for the opposite of unconditional
love?
Does it mean setting limits? dunno

I suspect the opposite of unconditional love is unconditional
hate. Total separation from one. Correct me if im wrong.

Don’t look to me for answers when your better half asks you one lonely evening, “Am I getting fatter?”

Yes

In French, we use to say "Qui aime bien, châtie bien...", it sounds being cruel to be kind...
If I translate it "Who likes well, castigate well", for sure it won't mean the same thing for you all...

Excellent - now I understand... thumbs up

What does punish mean? spare the rod and spoil the child
is an old saying. Unconditional love is self made punishment
by the child when they realize they have done something to
disappoint the parents. Using the rod I believe only
creates resentment and hatred as in abusive parent.

Children arn't the issue in this case.

With kids I believe consequence is the secret.
Setting rules and keeping to limits. There are ways to
raise children without the rod.

Make a difficult decision which is benefitting everyone involved in the long run. It takes true character to be able to do it, and it shows maturity.
