It starts on the 1st July.

What are your thoughts on this.

I think its ok in the summer, as you can sit in the pub garden and smoke, but in the winter whats going to happen then???

well any public building, all work places, all public transport, work vehicles that carry more than two people, you can smoke on a terrace at a pub if it has more than 2 walls which is just pathetic i reckon!!!

you should quit smoking then! believe me, if i can quit, anyone can!!

the ban started here a month or so ago and its been great. i've only been out once at night since the ban but its brilliant to wake up the next morning and not cough up a lung cos of the smokey atmosphere!

when i was working in canada i smoked and it was winter and -20 degrees outside and the snow was up to your knees. we still had to go outside and smoke there, and let me tell you, it was freezing! but it still never put some people off!

but smoking is fast becoming more anti-social than social, its unhealthy and sooooooo expensive, so it would do you better to quit really! (i recommend paul mckennas book and cdthumbs up )

Great birthday present for me! Won't be able to have a cig in pub when out celebrating! Grrrrrrr... Yeah I know, should stop but like alot of people, got too many stresses on at the mo and besides... its the thought that counts! Lol! Seriously though, I do agree with not smoking in restaurants/food outlets but I think it is taking it all a bit far! I have read today that they are going to ban smoking in cars next... whether or not people are travelling with you because apparently... when you are smoking you are not concentrating 100%! Grrrrrrr.... frustrated very mad

i definately recommend cold turkey though. nicotine patches etc just prolong the whole quitting experience. when you quit cold turkey you have 3 days of wanting to eat the heads of anyone who even looks at you, but then thats largely over!

i never crave at all anymore! head banger

We've had the smoking ban here in Scotland for over a year, so now whenever you go into a pub/club you have to fight your way in through the front door past all the smokers. The good thing is now whenever you're in a crowded place with a drunk smoker you are not worried about them burning your clothes with their ciggie and your clothes don't smell of smoke the next day.

yes thats what i think is going to happen, all the smokers will be crowded outside the pub

here they have built shelters, for the smokers to use, in the beer garden,. which is cool thumbs up

HI debs Hi everyone

As jason said we have had a smoking ban in place since april, I dreaded it at first, but now i actually enjoy going out for a drink and not smoking as i dont get a bad chest the day after, I still get the hangover though rolling on the floor laughing

I have tried to quit previously with the patches but they just made me sick so any tips would be gratefully recieved as I dont enjoy smoking anymore its just a really bad habit that I want to kick before my asthma gets any worse doh

i quit in 2004 before i got pregnant with my little boy, but a few months after he was born i started again (he was in hospital and the stress got to me and i needed SOMETHING!) although i didn't start "full time" if that makes sense.

the last time i had a cigarette was on 31st december 2006 and i havent looked back.

cold turkey is scary, but rip that bandaid off fast and its over and done with sooner!!!

its all very well wanting to stop smoking, but deciding to not be a smoker anymore is a different thing! thumbs up

yes but drinking beer or swearing etc in public isn't affecting the health of those around you!

the government arn't banning smoking outright, they are only banning smoking around those who don't have a choice in the quality of air they breathe!

i am glad tbh, i have a little boy, and while i couldn't give a monkey's left one if i breathed in smoke while in a pub or cafe, i certaintly don't want him breathing it in (not that he's ever in pubs, he is only 2, but you know what i mean!)
