You know, the day before yesterday, I saw a blues band that I love in a famous but small place in Chicago, I think that nothing is better than to share almost directly with musicians and singers their blast while they are on stage in a bar/pub or a little club. The pleasure is double (and more!)!! Unfortunately, some bands become too famous and need bigger place to satisfy their fan (and their wallet also, right?). Sad that they don't pursue on to play from time to time in bar or pubs... (Yes, I know it would be difficult!)
I'm leaning toward honkeytonks because its where alot of my friends play, and the cover is often cheaper. But as you say, it often depends.
I'm curious because I heard a rumor (maybe not such a rumor now) that Ozfest will be moving to indoor venues from now on. I guess Ozzy has allergies. But the idea of Ozfest is a "Festival" so that blows the whole theme of the thing.
outdoor festival! definately! you can't beat the atmosphere and you can act and dance like a lunatic and go wild and listen to loud music and its frickin great!
Ozzy... I saw him back in the early 90's - man, that was a trip!
Indoor festival?
I went to Ted Nugent's Whip Lash Bash. It was an indoor concert, but it was wild & crazy. He was up on a tree in a stand shooting arrows...I couldn't hear after that concert, for about a day.

Outdoor Festival?
Indoor Stadium?
Local Honkeytonk?
I'm a local honkeytonk (pub venue) guy for the most part. Local and growing bands can book gigs, and the dance floor is so much more intimate.
What do you think?
