Ok, I'll admit that stereotypes make for some pretty funny jokes, but let's get just a little bit serious for a moment and try to dispel a few myths. Not that I want to get insufferably heavy here. Humor is most definitely welcome. I'm just hoping we can learn something about each other and broaden our horizons. It's such a kick, isn't it? ;)

the stereotype i struggle with is age.Just because i am 49 it seems people think i have to be short, fat and bald and that i wheeze while i walk with a cane.I am not short.I am not fat,i am not bald and i dont use a cane and i can out walk, work and play harder than a person half my age.so my question is why when a man or womean is past 30 we are considered used up.

Although I agree once again with most of what cute has said. She's one smart cookie.I have to add to it.Some skinny women have troubles finding close too.I wear a one.We have no stores that carry anything below a size 5.So i have to shop in the same childrens section that I buy my daughters clothes in.So skinny people have problems shopping too.I think they should just make a line of clothes from size 0 to size 50+ that look just as good.

I'm 5'1". I have to hem everything I buy, although I will say the stores are carrying more petite lengths now than 5 yrs ago.

well now that i can relate to.I still wear the same size clothes i did in high school.A 29 inch waist. When i go to the store it is hard to find medium sometimes.I find 3 sizes.Jumbo jet, white whale and pickle barrle. :-)I have nothing against large people but there are those of us who are very small.last time i bought new levis i had to go to many different stores befor i could find my size.

Hi single mothers! I am so sorry for what you've experienced. It is a shame!
I want to talk about another kind of stereotype. Non-white people are suffering from lots of stereotypes. They are being judged based on their accent, nationality and look. I've thought about it a lot and finally came to the conclusion that it is in human nature. We try to classify every thing and usually the strong does it about the weak or who has an advantage does it about who doesn't have that advantage. What the strong ignores is that whatever we have in this world is a gift and very often we don't have much control over it (such as beauty).

thephoenix, oh I so agree with you! Its a bit unnerving to have some people automatically put me in the, 'six feet under category....LOL! At first appearance I've been told that I look in my mid to later 30's, but as soon as they find out I'm 47 they seem to change their tune. Like you Mr. Phoenix, my mind still works, I have all my teeth, etc. And I can still bench press what I used to do in high school. I had a bet with some of the neighbor boys with a combined weight of over 500 lbs, well, these boys thought they could out lift me. So I took them into my weight room at my house and humbled them...LOL! Why are people so into the age thing????

My problem stereotype is tattoos. I have some tattoos and people for years have commented hey, where is you bike? As if I have to be a biker chick to have tattoos. I was getting tattoos starting at age 15 and I have never been on a bike, nor do I want to. I don't like being lumped into this mold of being tough just because I have some tattoos. I am not very tough at all, except when it comes to shopping, because that is what I do since I am a girl right? lol

Oh and my kids are half Vietnamese and people always used to ask me if they were adopted! Too much.

I guess you could say that I am a typical "sterotype",and you know what,it keeps people wondering and if there not wondering there tryng to figure me out,and well they just never will unless they wanna take the time to get to know me,then I will tell them all they wanna know, but if at a glance you just plan try and figure me out, then you are going to come with so many things that you think I am or think that I could be,and well, you are intiteld to your opion,so keep on guessing, cause you will neve get it right.
