I didn't see this today, but the time of day you saw your beautiful sight today reminded me of it.
Between 5-5:30 one morning, at that gray time between dark and dawn, I looked out the back door, and there were what seemed like millions of bats flying around the back yard. They were flying back and forth gorging themselves before going home to roost, or whatever you call it that bats do, for the day. It was surreal, like something out of a Hitchcock movie. I just watched in awe, absolutely beautiful! I've seen them several times since then, but never quite as many as that first time. And I love that they are here, it keeps the mosquito population down to a bearable level!
I have never seen them in droves as you described it, however when I was young they used to scare me flying ever so close to my head. Not scream scared though, like my Mom, who was crouched in a corner of the kitchen, with a tea towel over her head....screaming for my Dad to get the bat thet had made it's way into the house when I was a kid...

I'b had them get in the house on rare occasions too. The first time scared the living s**t outta me. I tried opening the doors and shooing it out with a broom, that didn't work, just got it more excited. After a couple more times I found out that if I just leave them alone, they'll either find their own way out, or go somewhere and sit still and I can throw a towel over it and pick it up and take it out.
Mice are the only things that make me scream like a little girl. I don't even like to see dead ones, they scare the bejeezus outta me, I don't know why. I don't have them here though, TG.
I have a mouse phobia too. I scream and cant look at dead ones either. when i was 10 i was helping my dad on the farm and he asked me to get the wire cutters out of a toolbox that was on the wall in the barn. I opened it and there was a mouse!!!!!!!!!! I screamed, it was startled and jumped-right on my lip!!!I caouldnt stand them ever since

Don't laugh but I have never seen a sunrise. Will make that a goal on vacation this year if I have one. Beautiful sight...my cat curled up next to my feet and just the fact I woke this morning to start another day with the sun shining...
Wasn't witnessed today, but it has always stayed with me. It was a sunset years ago on Tennessee mountain in Colorado. Back then, I never dreamed that one day I'd be living in Tennessee and telling the one I love about the Colorado mountains.
The poem I wrote about that evening still comes to mind as easily as the images:
"Sunset at Tennesse Mountain Cabin" ( (c) 1980 Don McCrary)
I sat on the porch this evening, A glass of beer in my hand And the twilight fall Softly upon the land.
I am greatly awed by the view I have Of mountains, trees and sky. And a small grove of quaking Aspen Where deer often amble by.
The colors are beyond description; Salmon, peach and blue. And spun gold just beneath the clouds Where the last rays of sun are shining through.
The animals are coming out now, As the sun is softly falling. And somewhere down the valley, A great Horned owl is calling.
I sat on the porch this evening - The beer glass empty in my hand. And watched a Tennessee mountain sunset And Lord, but it sure was grand!

This morning I went for a stroll outside, 4;30 am
The horizon was burnt orange, melding higher into a pale blue.
Just a little higher, at 30 degrees above the horizon was a sliver of a moon, bathing in deep blue
Straight up above, the last of the stars twinkled.
So what is the beautiful picture you witnessed today?
And yes...I guess, you can pick anyone here as your beautiful pic....
