Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907.
"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."
I agree with you 100%. I live in Southern California where there are so many people who come to this country legally and illegally that care nothing about becoming an American Citizen. Calling an illegal alien an undocumented immigrant is like call a drug dealer an unlicensed pharmacist.
Good faith means starting out by doing it the "legal" way and wants to abide by the laws of this country for the privilege of becoming a citizen (good faith).
Exact equality does not = illegal people from another countrycoming into my country and "demanding" rights. That was meant for people who came here "LEGALLY" from various countries and maybe they didn't get along well in the old world. When they came to America...they committed to our ideals..or that was the idea. If foriegnors are invading our country than we have a right to discriminate against them...they DON"T belong here!!!
I feel that the need to take their country back...from others invading us and corrupt government.
If the young Americans would bother to look back and see what made the fiber of this country I hope they will understand how important is is to get a say now instead of being hooked on sitcoms and reality shows...
