Good genes...you have it made if you have looks, intelligence, are free from genetic illnesses and don't lose your hair before you're about 60.

good genes.... you're right about that... at least that's one of the first gifts but then after they're born you can bestow on them other gifts like love which is not really a gift as it comes naturally...

I'd say Patience is a good gift for them...

you are right we can give many gifts to our children another one is guidance allow freedom of choice but be there when advice is needed

guidance is a tricky one... it's subjective.... it's difficult to teach them to make their own decisions... there's always the influence ... and who's to say I'm right or wrong?

I do my best anyway, or what I think it's best even if that might not actually be the best. I can live with that.

The best Gift : Giving them a good start in life .. And that is why many people gamble their lives to move from where they are to somewhere better .. ignoring civil laws and regulations .. head banger Carry on , put the welfare of your children first .. give them a future ..

I think this is a very good thing that you say Damian .... giving the kids a good start in life even if it means gambling with moving to another country.

This is what my son and his wife did ... moving from SA to CH, with only their 22kg of luggage each, and a 6mth old baby and 4yr old son, no language of the country, and having to move from Management type of employment down to Labourers!

Their initiative and bravery has paid off .... they are now all fluent in German and the local dialect, and moved up the ladder to way past their previous SA employment levels. Their children enjoy superior education and an established safe environment and are free to play and enjoy their lives without security restrictions.

A great gift? - discipline. Without the structure of discipline, including the respect for authority (the parent figure) a child will never learn the pride of achievement and the ability of goal-setting, not to mention the ability of team-work. A family unit is the first example of a team, right? I have observed children growing up without the gift of discipline, and the results are usually disappointing and long lasting....

very true the family unit is the most important in ones learning years as we learn more in the first 4yrs of life than all the rest of our life and we learn that in the the family unit

Lagoona and Weddy I agree with you that discipline is very important within a family unit... but very important also is the gift of love (caring, supporting, encouraging)

There needs to be a good balance between discipline and love in children's lives. One without the other will produce mal-adjusted individuals...
I have seen the result of both... By far the worst when it comes to psychological damage is discipline without love...

The best gift you can give a child is a secure home full of love. This can only be provided by a woman. This is why I recommend that all men should get divorced immediately they become fathers.

Ok, ok - I was only joking.

I've observed kids out here in Malta. I have never seen such spoilt children anywhere else on this planet; however, by some miracle, they tend to grow up into really nice people - weird, huh?

confused grin
