I believe in God and take great comfort in my faith. I don't feel I'm getting misled or "ripped off" and as far as being kept in line...my parents taught me right from wrong but it's up to me to keep myself in check.
Looking at history it is real easy to tell what religion is for...Religion is a way to unite people towards a common goal...Some may say that religion is to save there souls. Some fanatical religions see it as a means to an end, and others think it is pure poppycock. I'll give you one example of uniting for a common cause...Emperor Constantine united the Roman Empire during his tenure...Though it has been said that he continued practicing paganism...He knew his best chance to unify his countries was to bring his subjects under one religion. At the time of his reign christianity seemed to be the right choice...Why? Because it was a one god system that didn't allow for any in fighting over religion it helped to unify his empire...Religion is a way of unifying people under a common cause...Though I believe there is a place for religion in society...it is leading cause of wars throughout time...Religions and there differences have the power to unite, but also destroy. Lately...It has only been a destructive, and hurtful force. I see religion as the CAUSE not the answer to our problems...To those of you of faith I mean no disrespect...Just my opinion.
hi Gilly,if A concept of God was socitys way of keeping us in check, they have failed miserbly at the job, dont u agree?Religion is just that, religion! It cant save u,or keep u in check and religion wears many faces.I could worship a rock and call it religion. But being a true christian is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, which changes the heart. Then and only then when the heart is changed can we become the person Jesus died for.Even then we make mistakes because we r still human. But as a true christian we dont kill, molest little children ,ect.
I remember a statement as reply to one of my posts few days back where a guy said....
You can somehow bring a horse to water, but cannot make it drink! The later on it went funny but thoughtful for me, in the way that , further suggested upon question how to make it drink then? reply was, drown his mouth in water and kick his balls and then see how much he can take.
Although its funny to imagine, but most of us do behave like that horse ...please note one thing important that its not necessary that horse really wanted to drink water, why to force the poor? Its understood that when it'll be thirsty, water would be the ultimate need, right?
Extending this further, "I had the thirst, searched water, found it and drank it, and was satisfied.
Before I quote my opinion, one thing must be noted that I'm not advocating anything, I'm quoting JUST my belief.
I think a lot about things around me, laws of nature, evolution, cultures, think about rain, effects, sunshine, behaviors of age, ........thousands of things ................... and then after trying to figure out how come all this was created and setup BY ITSELF? It just wasn’t possible that it just happened thru evolution process...
I do believe evolution is a reality, the most obvious example if our ways of living and styles alive history of last few hindered years...
The most convincing guide for me to believe in God is the Holy book of Islam, called "The Qura'n"...I can't read Arabic language properly neither can I speak or understand so I got its translated version in English and Urdu where I studied it like an ordinary book...for months. I read it like a story book...compared what was written in it about 1500 years ago and then went back in history as far as I could go thru literature...(I'm not a scholar to quote exact references here )...but I did discover this scholar named "Zakir Naik" (Scholar of Comparative Religions and Medical Doctor) from India…whose books and debates with not only Christian but many other scholars caused 1000s of people to get convinced.
Anyways…friends, we must respect of whatever one believes in, religion is a personal way of life, way to satisfy your self, way to keep you on good path which may lead you to anything good. We all have to die but we are alive at the moment, instead of fighting over issues, the priority should be to become a good human being, social, friendly and supportive to other beings.
I, personally, really do not appreciate how this beautiful way of life (Islam) is being portrayed, defined and being practiced by many people (Not to offend anyone) and giving it a bad name. Many events in past caused ISLAM to appear a brutal practice, BUT, things are 100% opposite if you BY YOURSELF with Neutral Mind study it just for the sake of knowledge and understanding, evaluate the logics and reasons, then you’ll see media a much bigger cause of creating unexpected opinions.
As a conclusion, again I would say, no matter who you are, no matter which way of life you have chosen or don’t care about, no matter what views you have inside you for anything, but we should RESPECT what others truly believe in. Things may appear to be different, but I would always prefer to go deep myself and feel it by myself just for the sake of my own understanding.
My belief, my friendly opinion and with due respect to everyone, their beliefs and their opinions.
