I am new to online dating. I am wanting to know how to spot a scammer. I really don't want to get mixed up with someone who is just lying about who they are...can anyone help???
Not very good english, wanting to know way to personal information to fast, asking for help with some kind of tragedy in life, (death of a family member, stranded in another country)
I am just trying to get an idea on this before I jump in....I feel like a whinner....LOL....I am afraid to trust anyone....been burned in the past way to many times. I am just out of a horriable marriage and feel it is time to start looking for someone to just hang out with...I just don't want to rush into anything...
Well that's easy to resolve ..... limit your locations from which you receive mail.
As for scammers - there is info on the site: most of them are after money, but there are those who simply play with your head/heart.
If it sounds like a form letter - it is if they want to correspond almost immediately off site - be wary if they are stuck somewhere and only YOU can help financially - don't believe it if they propose right away - don't say yes
They basically build up your trust in them, make you feel wonderful, but as soon as they ask for something and you question them ...... they say that you don't love them etc.
Doesn't matter if they talk to you on the phone - still may be a scammer
Trust your instincts - question them, but be aware that they are persistant. More so probably then someone just seeking to date etc. because they have an agenda.
Welcome my dear, there is a link on the left side of your screen that shows how to spot them. And the Odd thing is, they are actually very easy to spot, they all have the same story every single time. Most of them come out of South Africa, South America, some Former Russian Block countries, and China. Indoneasia and so on, if you have Doubts contact the Admin here on CS and let them know whats going on, they can help you , or ask someone here they are very nice and will bend over backwards to help you . Sorry about the spelling , but I suck at it.
Welcome, Girlfriend......There are scammers all over....Sometimes it's VERY easy to tell and, other times it takes a bit longer. If you have any question about it, I'm sure that by emailing any one of us here and telling us about it, we've probably heard from him, too and can tell you.
Remember, once you believe it's a scammer, report it to the Mods ASAP. When they get several messages about someone, they are more apt to check into it immediately and get them removed.
When you study their profile, you can find things like "Graduate Degree" and then they can't even form a proper sentence. Their home address is listed as maybe Chicago, but they are looking for a gal in Arizona. (They forget to alter all the sections of their fake profile.) Many of them will cut and paste their entire profile into a first letter to you.)
I don't give them the chance to alter their profile before reporting them because I want them to be as obvious as possible.....it's easier on new people like yourself.
Good luck, join us in the fun.....and, don't worry, you'll be able to spot them in no time. It's the players who will keep you guessing.
This has helped a bunch....thank you! I may not have said it the right way to begin with now that I have read this... I think it is the players that I am worried about...someone asking my for money is really funny.....I am a full time college student, who works part time cleaning office buildings...some for a friend...and I have a very small franchise of my own...I am able to keep my head above water and that is it....LOL...so like I said....I can't help anyone with cash...I have to help me.....LOL...it even says something about that in my profile....I am not looking for anyone to take care of me either...I can do that for myself....
Sure since I live to bust them. They will right off the bat give you their mail addy.If thats not enough will have this fine looking not to be believed pic up.Usually if you pay attention you can see right thru them as in their writing,if they say they are harvard graduate but you see simple misspelled words. You can alwaysdo whats called baiting, ask them questions like where they are from. And then ask questions he should know. The worst of these scammers are the romance ones want to guess why. They go at you in your most vunerable spot, your heart.By the time you are so in love they make up an excuse got leave will be back, when they are only going to pull some more hyearts in.Whatever you do and this is utmost importance.Never give out your personal info, and if you do.Say you meet someone one they call phisher. These types can pull your id and info in matter of miutes. And one warning I state over and over, stay out of a chatroom.Anyone can follow you out.And if you do give out your info, change out your id,your pw at least once a week for at least a month. And if you have a yahoo id on him,go to profile see if he even exists.
heres a good clue about africa (nigerian and ghana) scammers ) and trust me you WILL encounter them, they will say something to this effect ....am seeking for my soulmate.....or am seeking for my right woman..lol man to me but but thats a good clue to a scam...I know it sounds stupid but when the start out with AM ,,,,,watch out..good luck.
you are right on the money... i've been through it all too and love to bust them,if you happen to get as fwr a talking to them on a messenge ask where they are from...hummmm texas huh? say what time is it or whats your zipcode heehehehe watch them scramble trying to look it up ...they start buzzing you and sayind are you still there? just looking for time to look it up on the internet it really is funny when you catch them thats when they start cussing and sweraring at you lol its a ball...............
