I just lost one of the strongest and bravest friends I ever knew two weeks ago. I am not downplaying 9-11. I think those people are entitled to FAIR compensation, but our servicemen and women are too. I served my country proudly, so YES I do have the right to speak about this. Also, there ARE OPINIONS in this Thread.

I think the vast differences in compensation between the victims of the September 11th casualty, and those who die serving our country in uniform, are profound. No one is really talking about it either because you just don't criticize anything having to do with September 11th. Well, I just can't let the numbers pass by because it says something really disturbing about the entitlement and mentality of this country. Plus, I don’t give a f*ck about political correctness. If you lost a family member in the September 11th attack, you're going to get an average of $1,185,000. The range is a minimum guarantee of $250,000, all the way up to $4.7 million. If you are a surviving family member of an American soldier killed in action, the first check you get is a $6,000 direct death benefit, half of which is taxable. Next, you get $1,750 for burial costs. If you are the surviving spouse, you get $833 a month until you remarry. And there's a payment of $211 per month for each child under 18. When the child hits 18, those payments come to a screeching halt. If you are the spouse of a two-tour Vietnam Veteran, who received the Purple Heart, came home and died at age 54, you get nothing but a free headstone. (Trust me, I know, and so does my mom) Keep in mind that some of the people that are getting an average of $1.185 million up to $4.7 million from 9-11 are complaining that it's not enough. I also learned a few months back that some of the victims from the Oklahoma City bombing have started an organization asking for the same deal that the September 11th families are getting. In addition to that, some of the families of those bombed in the embassies are now asking for compensation as well. You see where this is going, don't you? Folks, this is part of over fifty years of entitlement politics in this country. It's just really sad.

Every time when a pay raise comes up for the military they usually receive next to nothing of a raise. Now my brothers and sisters in arms are in combat in the Middle East while their families have to survive on food stamps and live in low rent housing. However our own U.S. Congress just voted themselves a raise, and many of you don't know that they only have to be in Congress one-time to receive a pension that is more than $15,000 per month and most are now equal to be millionaires plus. They also do not receive Social Security on retirement because they didn't have to pay into the system. If some of the military people stay in for 20 years and get out as an E-7 you may receive a TAXABLE pension of $1,000 to $1,500 per month, and the very people who placed you in harms way receive a pension of $15,000 per month. I would like to see our elected officials pick up a weapon and join the ranks before they start cutting out our benefits and lowering the pay of my fellow Shipmates, Marines, Soldiers and Airmen who are now fighting. I have to say I agree on the money that Congress is exceedingly way too much. But what to do,we put them there,it is run by us.As for the men serving losing their lives and are given a small monthly check,I think if incidents that happen in this country and the victims are being compensated.Whats up with that, did not these men go to fight for everything we hold sacred in this country, and some like my uncle didnt come home.I nstead in the Korean war he died a hero, saved alot lives but gave his own.And in the process they shot his head off,we buried him without it but later placed it with him.But not until peace was decided. He was only 23,but never thought twice in going to a place he knew he might not come back from. But if they are giving entitlements out then you best remember who gave all.
This should be on the front page of every newspaper in the country, might wake a few people up. Thank you for saying what some of us just think and never say.
Wow thanks for posting this. As a disabled vet, I can honestly say, we dont get enough. We are the ones who fight for the freedom, we are the ones who put our lives on the line everyday. I was a medic, and one of the first rules of being a medic, if you are under fire, with a patient, guess who comes first? The patient. We are to cover the patient with our own bodies! Do you know how many patients I have covered, wondering if I am going to survive the fire? I have watched friends die, and lose limbs because of this. What compensation do they get?? Compared to the victims of 9/11...they get squat! I agree we need to help the victims and the families of the victims of 9/11 but what about those of us who have been fired at, who have been shot, who have lost friends, because we were fighting for this country??
Thanks Chele.........If you notice on my pic I was a Corpsman as was the man this was dedicated to. He lost his life just as described~Selflessly protecting another shipmate.
I held my best friend in my arms as she died, from a gunshot wound, from sniper fire, if we were a foot closer to the sniper, it would have been me. After his weapon jammed, he tried to attack us, there were 3 of us, (well 4) and we attacked him, with our roundless weapons, and he died at my hand, he killed my best friend, he shot her in the back and there was nothing I could do. We were targets with our red crosses on our vehicles and our arms. We had no armor because we werent supposed to be fired upon according to Geneva Convention laws. Her family got less then what Cbond was talking about, $400 a month til the youngest is 18 (she had 3 children) per child. She got her burial, her husband got NOTHING!!
Working from memory here, but I don't know what compelled the House, Senate & President to approve that amount for the victims of 9/11. If that's the case, anyone who dies in ANY disaster should recieve compensation, not just those from 9/11. (with all due respect)
Certainly, one can't help but feel sympathy for 9/11 victims...seems like the compensation was a "feel good thing".
Of course, it's always easier to spend money when it's not yours...
Hopefully, I didn't offend anyone as it is a touchy topic.
Yes this is a touchy subject. But when I saw how my friends wife and young daughter were being treated, I had to bring this to light.
It was bad enough watching her get handed that flag as her little girl looked on but the aftermath of her struggling with bills and finances really got to me.............
