I think that the financial reason is because so many don't want to have to deal with having to worry about how they're going to meet the rent from month to month. Don't quote me on that, because I'm just guessing there.
As for marrying because they had a kid together, I believe it's because either they were raised to believe that the child needs both parents in their lives. They think that it's the best thing for the child. Or they themselves grew up without one parent or the other, and don't want their child to be raised the same way. These are both reasons why there is so much divorce.
Another one is marrying for happiness. It doesn't work unless you're happy with yourself first.

I agree with Lady Hawk in that people get married to make ends meet. It used to be mostly women seekng to land a Sugar Daddy because she did not wish to work. However, these days, there are plenty of men that want their women to support them while they stay home. In some couples, like those over the age of 45-50, I think they "settle," get married quickly to avoid being alone in their Golden and Twilight Years - somebody to take care of them.

That isn't true. It can be beautiful. And regarding buying her the house and car. It sounds like you had to pay her for her share. And yeah, at least here in California, a woman can end up paying spousal support. I know as I almost had to myself.

Call me cynical but I believe ONLY marrying out of love is the wrong reason.
There should be many different reasons for me to marry before I would, one of them out of love of course but the rest practical.
