We have installed both private IM and group Webchat. You can IM privately with any member who is currently online by clicking the icon on their profile. You can chat with a group of up to 25 members at a time by clicking the Chat tab in your top navigation bar. Read info and rules on chat pages before you use them.

In order to use the new IM and Chat , 3 items are required - you will not be able to use chat or IM without these 3:

1. JAVASCRIPT must be enabled
2. FLASH must be enabled
3. POPUPS must be enabled for connectingsingles.com

If you’re not sure whether your computer fits the 3 requirements, there are 3 simple test-buttons to click to help you find out. The 3 buttons are located under “CHAT PROBLEMS” at the bottom of the Chat Launch entry page (just BELOW THE RED “LAUNCH CHAT” BUTTON. If you are having trouble using IM or Chat, or you want to find out if your computer is chat-ready, simply click the BLUE TEST BUTTONS and the answer will popup immediately for you.

POPUPS are required so that the IM window can pop up. We do not have popup ads on this site (only banner and text ads), so you don’t need to worry about being bombarded by popup ads on site pages or after you leave the site.

FLASH technology is used for this Chat and you must have Flash installed to be able to use the Chat.

You may find other helpful info on your Chat Launch page or on the site’s Help pages under Chat and IM.

If you try to IM someone and they do not answer, don't immediately assume that they don’t want to chat with you. It may be that
1) they didn’t receive it,
2) they recently logged off the site, or
3) they don’t have a browser that works with the chat and so they don’t see your request.
Send the member an email to let them know you tried IMing them.

The Chat/IM is in beta right now so bear with us while we take care of the bugs. Please send any errors you receive to Contact Us with a detailed explanation and we will try to fix them.

Some of you are saying that you see a popup window that doesn't tell you who wants to IM with you. The IM request SHOULD include the sender’s username and we’re looking into this. It is happening intermittently. If you see this problem, please send as much info as possible to Contact Us.

If you have Chat or IM questions, refer to the site HELP pages (links on all site pages)

We hope you are enjoying the chat.
Have fun… be safe.

the message says

A websitemember wants to IM you, and it has a yes or no button

What I'm finding annoying is, that you don't know the persons name unless you accept, and as soon as you make a post , you have all these pop ups wanting to talk to you. And I'm not talking one or two requests here.

I accepted one ..........

convo:

him.......... hi

me: ....hi

him......... so what do you do for fun

me....... (thinking here we go) I like to go out dance, have a drink etc

him........... what are you wearing

END OF CONVO !

Maybe I'm a party pooper, but I really would like an option to turn the thing off

I'm happy enough with the message box and making my own mind up if I want to exchange emails or IM after a while.

Dear Mods...
I sure appeciate all the nice changes you have made to CS. But I have a question.
Is there anyway we can see who is trying to IM us without having to accept the IM first? This sure would be a nice addition to the IM feature!

You shouldn't have that problem anymore.

When someone IM's you, the IM request window will appear directly and you will immediately see who wants to IM with you. You can then start typing to reply, or close the window if you choose.

If you don't have time or do not wish to chat, it may be good to type that reason in, or a simple 'no thank you', and press SEND before closing the window, so the member at least knows you received it.

If you do not see this new change to the IM, press your browser's REFRESH button or the F5 key on your keyboard.

Hopefully clicking on no and refusing the IM means no thankyou lol

It would still be nice to have the option to turn it off

When ya getting more than several requests at a time, its quite annoying

Especially when you don't know who the request is from.

I'm all for new features, and understand that its something a lot of ppl want and enjoy

For me, getting an IM invite from a total stranger, who is nameless, is a bit disturbing

At least with a private mail we can view the persons profile first, and decide from there if we want to take it further.

I just had a notification that someone wanted to IM with me. It didn't say who though, so I'm afraid I clicked on "no". How do I get it to say who is requesting?

Anyone? dunno

To the Sender : Apologies to you if I offended you, I simply don't know how it works yet.... doh Duuhhh...!!!

Yeah, Admin did say there my be intermittent teething troubles to start with. I don't want anyone to think I am being rude but I can't just accept regardless of who it is, can I?

Perhaps this will be rectified soon? I'm sure it'll be fab!! yay

To Katine 76: the Canada forums are still there. You should see a link called "CA Forums" on the top nav, or use ConnectingSingles.ca.

To Roseofsharon and Eupho: The problem you are experiencing has been fixed. Please clear your browser's cache and try it again. Let us know if you still have problems after clearing your cache.

To Clear your cache:
For Internet Explorer: click on Tools, Internet Options, General Tab, click on Delete Cookies, and then click on Delete Files (check "delete all offline content").
For Mozilla: click on Edit, Preferences, under Category, click on Advanced, highlight the word Cache, Go to the top of the page, under Cache, click on the Cache button, then ok at the bottom of the page.
