Just wondering... do people really believe it's going to somehow make you second guess yourself when they tell you the old "your loss not mine" statement?

I think I'm solely my own judge of what is a loss for me and what isn't, and of what is a good opportunity for me and what isn't. So it's a little amusing if not irritating when someone says this to me, especially someone who doesn't even know me.

How do you take it when someone tells you it's "your loss".

Yeah I feel like that.. its MY views and opinions that let me know what is *My loss* and what isn't.

If I have decided *no* ... its because I cant see what I would gain.. and more what I WOULD lose.

I decide my *loss*.

It's just an expression to save face and make themselve feel better about themselves after being rejected.

I don't see any sense in that line, either, other than the possibility that this is someone's way of feeling better about THEIR loss...less rejected, in other words. This would be a comment that one makes when they have been told that the relationship is over or something similar, so they are now in that dreaded place we've all been at one time or another...they are being dumped, to whatever the degree. Never a good feeling. So, I guess the "Your loss" line is reactionary and an attempt at self-preservation of dignity or something. Just my 2 cents.

As an aside, I've just started reading the forum posts and enjoying myself immensely. I am currently in Kabul, Afghanistan...can't go anywhere outside of the compound where I work, live, and eat. So this will prove to be an enjoyable time-passer for me during the hours after I finish work. Soon heading back to my favorite 2nd homeland, Greece. But, for now, I will look forward to making new online aquaintances. Cheers!

Yes, cos it's a vindictive evil putdown to say to someone, not to mention immature. I wouldn't ever dream of saying that to anyone so no one gets off lightly with saying it to me laugh and hopefully they learn their lesson and don't say it to anyone else in an hurry rolling on the floor laughing

People want to be right but not nessarily correct. Such a statement makes them feel right. But it never means they are correct.

Its a term used in mind games and we all
do that to some extent.
But i think that there are situations and
circumstances where it can get a positive
reponse.
But more often than not, said in a put down
kind of way.
