About time a woman had a chance to run this country. This isn't going to go down well with the good old boys but even the South is coming around.

This is from the Pew research Center:

"It placed the former first lady eight percentage points ahead of the Republican former New York mayor - by a margin of 51 per cent to 43 per cent - and showed that she is making ground among areas of the electorate that have been solid Republican for the past two to three decades.

Mrs Clinton leads Mr Giuliani, considered the favourite to win the Republican nomination, in the South, and polls evenly among voters who attend church once a week.

The New York senator's gender is also an advantage, with a 20-point lead among women voters, more than the usual margin for Democrat candidates."

popularity votes mean nothing

Electoral college picks this one

by the way I have voted for 33 years, longest consecutive streak is 12 years and I have never NEVER been polled... via phone, mail or on the streets.... So based on that I gotta figure they ain't using with working class blue collar types to get these figures.

the pew and every other poll is trying to pick the president right now...they have decided it already in iowa and new hampshire which hillary isn't leading in either right now....in fact hillary is in 3rd here in iowa...but the pew doesn't report this finding...just like rudy is winning...he is winning because of the media not the people on the street...trust me i am very involved around here and hillary has left a strong distaste in people mouths around these parts they percieve her as a nontruthful person....

by the way if you listen to the polls she beats all the republicans by less than a 3% margin whether it be ron paul or mitt, fred or rudy,
but the strange thing is she wins with no more than 48% of the vote...hmmm i don't see this happening.......confused dunno

You seem to be laboring under the belief that folks from the south are un-educated, boorish oafs who swill beer and Jack Daniels while riding around in their pick-up trucks hollering "YEE-HAW! Let's go kill us a 'possum!" whilst waving Rebel flags, on their way to vote Republican.

All I can is say that you are WAY off base! I've been in every state in this country, plus all of the Provinces of Canada and I can tell you that there are "Good Ol' Boys" (or rednecks, since you seem to like that term) in every area. Even Minnesota, home of the professional "wrastler" turned politician/Governor.

My mother-in-law is a died in the wool Southern Democrat, as is the gentleman who performed our wedding ceremony. In Mr. Wandell's case, he is also a gun totin', tobacco chewing Southern born redneck and seems to be pretty darned proud of it. He's also proud of the fact that, while on a hunting trip in New England, he had the opportunity to meet Mrs. Clinton for a one-on-one luncheon.

I don't happen to share his political views or his opinion of Mrs. Clinton, but then again, I come from Bob Dole country and have met Mr. Dole on several occasions and find him to be every bit as intelligent and engaging as Tracy finds Mrs. Clinton to be. And I respect the views of others even if I don't personally agree with them.

Personally, I do not believe that Mrs. Clinton will win in the south - personally, I HOPE that she doesn't win anywhere - but if she does become our next commander in chief, I will support her. Albeit grudgingly. And that's more than I can say for alot of so called "civilized democrats" where Mr. Bush (or any other Republican) is concerned.

I will leave this thread now and allow you to resort to the name calling and mud-slinging that you seem to have such a propensity for.

I sincerely wish your candidate luck. (But I wish mine even more luck!) laugh

I think that was a fair assessment and a fair post.,.....I dont think the animosity felt towards Bush is the same for other Republicans and I think Bob Dole has always been well respected across party lines. I am far away though and I could be wrong. I don't think Hilary Clinton will carry the South either but I dont think Plarkin's post implied that Southerners were rednecks....just that they would be expected to be Republican and that maybe there would be some surprises....

Alright plarkin, I don't know the numbers but I agree whole heartedly that a woman can run this country as well as any man.
And why not? No, please, somebody tell me why a qualified woman (not just Hillary) can't run this country?
Personaly, I'm hoping our next president will be either Clinton or Obama. That's right. A woman or a black muslim. And strictly for their respective political views!

Hello...? Of my original post the following is all I wrote (the rest is from the polling company):

"About time a woman had a chance to run this country. This isn't going to go down well with the good old boys but even the South is coming around."

And where do you see me calling you the things you've implied? Don't be so defensive!

I'll bet you a $1,000.00 that any Democrat, much less Clinton, will carry New York.

Hi DarkGemini poor Obama has run pillar to post saying he's not a Muslim. I believe him.

The only Muslim in the US Congress is my representative Keith Ellison, who also happens to be black. He was elected from a district that's 95% white and Lutheran. What can I say I love my neighbors!

I have no need to defend anything. I will tell you that I graduated from the University of Texas and lived in that state for a while.

And here is another poll:

"The survey by The Washington Post and ABC News indicated that only 24 percent of those surveyed think the nation is on the right track, and three-quarters said they want the next president to chart a different political course.

A new direction is wanted not only by Democrats, but also by three-quarters of Independents and even half of Republicans, according to the poll.

More than six in 10 called the war in Iraq not worth fighting, and nearly two-thirds gave the national economy negative marks.

Meanwhile, about seven in 10 see an economic recession as likely over the next year.

There is evidence in the new poll that the coming battle for the White House is shaping up to be another hard-fought, highly negative and closely decided contest, The Washington Post said.

At this point, Senator Hillary Clinton, the Democratic frontrunner, holds the edge in hypothetical match-ups with four of the top contenders for the Republican nomination.

But her margins are far from comfortable against the two best-known Republican candidates, former New York mayor Rudolph Giuliani and Senator John McCain, The Post said.

Not one of the leading candidates in either party has a favorable rating above 51 percent in the new poll.

Twenty-eight percent said they feel strongly favorable toward Clinton, but more than a third, 35 percent, have strongly negative views of her, the survey showed."

Feel free to believe either one.

Sir,

I've been on this site for more than a year. I've read many of your posts. Either you have a short memory or simply refuse to admit to your own past.

In almost every case (with the exception of your original post in this thread) in the past when someone did not agree with your views, I've seen you resort to exactly the things I mentioned in my response to your original post. Those prior posts (and your responses) are the ones that I alluded to. Though seldom directed at me, personally, I've nonetheless witnessed those things mentioned in my response.

So, my apologies - As you did not (other than the 'good ol' boy' reference) in this particular thread, make any of the references I mentioned - but only to a point, as I've seen you do exactly the things I alluded to in several of your previous posts.

Again, I will bow out of this and all other political threads and simply bid everyone a good evening.

(Oh, and I wasn't being "defensive," merely attempting to enlighten you just a little...)

to avoid any further confusion, should all elected officials disclose who is related to them that is employed by the media industry...

They should also be more vocal who in politics is closely related too. Maybe more people would've noticed the last election was between two cousins. It's like the Patty Duke show from hell.
