Well, should we use all means possible to stay aware of our teenagers activities...I found a site that will monitor all IM's conversations that teenagers use instead of phone.

There are ways to secure most pcs...I had tweeked mine so when the kids used it they only had so much they could do...make sure tehy cannot log into your accounts..also, they are chatrooms that are for kids that adults frequent. disgusting. Taught my daughter early. Now whenever she gets an IM pop up, her answer to all personal questions is MOO, LOL!
She's a smart cookie. My main concern at the time was my son. As per course wanted to explore nudies...Little did he know these folks put tiny cookies...in your drive and suck the hell out of it. Also, if you get pc savvy, you can find anyhing on eh pc. Delete means nothing if ya wanna get technical...
Always be aware...
Good thread !!! :o)

trying not to be a name dropper but this program saves all aolinstant messages sent or received..I thnk it would be a good device for parents to use to know what thier freinds and school pals are discussing /planning. it does not inform the user that it is on... with peer pressure and all.
I am grateful I am not in the situation in these days raising teenagers.
I have only the best wishes for those that are.

I don't know, you shuld monitor some things that your kids do, but not all. If everytime you come in the rrom and they are on the computer but they seem to close the box, or hide what they are doing, then I think whatever you want to do is fine. But don't be too nosy, my mother read my journal and my room and tried to tell me I couldn't date my son's father, so I moced out and didn't tell her where I went and still haven't talk to her to this day, its been two years now, don't chase them off either.
Good luck in your decision.

If they are teenagers I think that should be aware you can read their chat logs. How the frig do you expect to build a trusting relationship if they find out you are doing that behind their backs. Give then the tools teach them the etiquette talk till you're blue in the face....but spying if just wrong. Every person deserves the respect of personal space.

heck yeah! the next town over from me...a cop's daughter, she was all of twelve or thirteen, i work with her aunt...small town of like 3042, met a man on chat...who was supposed to be a teenager, and instead drove all the way from california and took her. she was tortured and then shot in the head as the police found her.

i'm not sneaky about it...my kids know in advance that i check up, that it is cause i love them. i wish my mother had done that...maybe would have saved me some heartache. if they complain, i tell them that while i trust them, i don't trust the rest of the world, and being older...i might pick up on something they missed.

It's entirely different if you are up front with them about it. That is honesty..
