Surely, in both cases its a matter of personal preference? If you are looking for a rule of thumb, I don't think there is one.....

Flowers on the first date is great as long as it's not something over the top. As far as asking me to marry him that all depends on how I truly feel about him. When I look at him do I see the rest of my life? The second question is hard to answer.

Flowers on a first date are a matter of protocol, and as such have little meaning. That question was fairly easy. The second, in all honesty, takes time and dating to know for sure.

Its down to the indivdual, are they a flower person,for one...... As for how soon would they want u to ask them to marry them, well, there are a lot of people that get married soon after meeting, some go on for years and years and some fall flat on their face,,,, so really that relationship needs to be on a much stronger footing, dont u think?..........

I would like to get flowers after the date, to say " I had a great time, thinking about you, and would like to do it again"
Flowers before you get to know some one is kind of meaningless, to me anyway.
As for marriage, I think you both would know when the time is right. Maybe, talking about marriage, and the possibilities before you ask.
But, I am divorced.

I once received pickled onions and cheese on a first date. Now that might seem strange to some but i thought i was sweet as the guy had paid attention to past conversation when i said i liked them. As Rose said rule of thumb here. As for Marriage if it got to that stage surely it would have discussed sometime.
