I was just watching an interview with him on tv which made me remember his part in the film.
I also remember the narrator's voice...was it Sam Elliott? I think he had a couple of scenes in the film too?

I consider this comedy second only to Monty Python and The Holy Grail. I have in fact even read the script by the Cohen Brothers.
Yeah, uh . . . we found it lodged up against an abutment [the dude’s car].
Ah, man! Lodged up WHERE?
Yeah, they probably abandoned it once it hit the retaining wall.
I believe they are making a new movie based on the book ‘No Country For Old Men.’ It’s about time!!!
And I believe . . . the dude abides.
