Remember the movie the Shining ? Today I was offered (again) a similar job as in the movie. There is a very luxurious condo resort on a enormous lake North of Toronto. This resort was once a destination for Hollywood stars in the 30's, it's magnificent. They prefer a couple to live there year long and keep the place up, ferry guests from the mainland by boat etc. It pays 30K a year with accommodation included. Now here's the catch; you are stuck there alone for 4 months a year, while the lake ice gets thick enough for a snowmobile in early winter, and during the spring thaw so the yacht can be used.

If there was a woman in my life that was willing to be stranded for 4 months a year...........

PS: I was offered this job 5 years ago when I arrived in Ontario. I turned it down. Needed a social life, which really didn't come to pass.

This is not your run of the mill job. 4 months of solitude alone is not easy.

I would base my decision on what I felt was right for me, assuming there would NEVER be anyone in my life to share it with. Don't get me wrong, Paws...I hope there will be someone for you, just as I hope there will one day be someone for me. But if you take that out of the decision-making factor and simply ask yourself if you want this job and think you could enjoy it even if you had to spend the rest of your days alone, perhaps you will find your answer. I made a career decision that may indeed be making it almost impossible to find a man to share my life with, but I am happy with my decision. At least I have a job and a lifestyle that I love. Had I turned it down, hoping for Mr. Right, I would be without the job and could still be alone, too.
I know it's a tough decision and I wish you well....if you take the job, spend those 4 months thawing out as many women as possible!
