I've heard people say that if someone doesn't like them, it's their problem. I've also seen people worry too much about being liked.
Is there a happy medium or is it important at all?
I'll start by saying that it is important to me that I come across right and people see my good side a lot more often than my bad. I'd much rather have a friend than feel like I have to watch my back. Most people are such friendly sorts that I would be losing out if they didn't like me, so yes, it is important that you like me.

All i can say its important for people to like me Yes..but if they dont like me nor care to get to know me then Nope..i dont sit and worry at all..i say its their loss becos i can become a good friend when one needs me..i would be there for anyone..
My friends know me like I'm with all my good and my bad sides. If I meet new people I'm just myself, sometimes good sometimes bad. If someone doesn't like it.... Doesn't cares me. Not everybody have to like me because I don't like everybody neither. I don't chance myself to attract someone. JMO

No i don't think it is important whether people like you are not,all you can be is yourself, and if people don't like your personality well so be it,i would not worry about it.
Neighbours, co-workers, perhaps team mates all can make a difference in how well your day goes just because of their opinion of you. Opening a door for the next person, male or female; saying good morning to a stranger.etc. I find these things make me feel good anyway and I would hope that the other person might smile. And that can't be a bad thing.
