So, my birthday present to myself is getting Lasik Vision correction. I'm scheduled to get it done the day after my birthday, on January 11th. I'm really excited, but nervous. I have had problems that have been getting consistantly worse when it comes to putting contact lenses in and I despise wearing my glasses. So Lasik will resolve both issues. I've been to the evaluation and I was told that based on my vision and the tests I had done that there is no reason that I shouldn't have 20/20 if not better vision after healing up.
I've talked to a couple of friends who have had it done and gotten mixed results on the following days after surgery. Both now see 20/20 or better, but one said he felt absolutely fine within hours after it was done other than dry eye really bad and slight irritation (like sand or hair was in his eye). The other said that he had really bad irritation in light, got really bad headaches with even a bit of light, and consistantly watery eyes for several days.
Just wondering if anyone here has had it done and what was your after surgery experience?
Thanks Mid. I've read all the pamplets on it; been planning it for a year and a half. Mostly they all talk about the possible risks when getting it done, not the days of healing which is frustrating.
I'm looking forward to the super stellar cool clear plastic shades they said I have to wear to bed every night for the first two weeks (in case I tend to rub my eyes in my sleep).
Well, you can have it done at any time though in your 40s & up it may not have the results that I can get due to presbyopia (aging of the eye). It depends on the individual whether it restores vision to 20/20, but the younger you are the better the results from what the doctor told me. I don't know if there is a real big difference in savings as you get older. There might be though. :)
My friends Brian & Gabe are within 5 years my age. Brian is 34 and Gabe is 27. Both had theirs within the last two years. Brian is the one who had the trouble with lights and headaches and watery eyes. Gabe said that he just had dry eye and irritation
The doctor I'm seeing is the top doctor in the tri-state area, so I'm happy he's the one doing it.
Its $3750 before my vision care payout reimbursement (they give 15% off), so not too bad. I'm using my flex spending card (so, mini payments are just taken out of my paycheck). That total includes the surgery, the anasthetic, aftercare meds, and all my follow up appointments
Looking forward to not fighting with my contact lenses anymore. Even a brand new pair causes my eyes to burn and water for the first 5-10 minutes of putting them in. Then there's the benefit of not having to find my glasses in the morning (as the cat likes to chase the case off the nightstand) or not being able to just wear sunglasses in the summer (as I have the magnetic overlays now for when I wear my glasses).
