Went out looking for a new coat today. Everything on sale. yay Did not matter the brand name or what store I was in, every coat I looked at was made in China. Not a Made in Mexico or Pakistan in the lot! blues

Yes, ripped my sleeve on my old coat yesterday. Just found it strange that no matter how expensive the coat was, it was still made in China. Ok, so within my price limit. :-)

I've been trying to buy things made in other countries like Canada or European countries but I've founf very little is made anywhere other than China or a handful of other Asian countries.
Tools are an exception. There is a large portion of the tool market that is made in China as well but the quality is substandard compared to North American or European manufacturers.
I wonder how long it will be before EVERYTHING is made in China. We even have a large portion of our produce and canned good coming from there. This makes me a bit nervous seeing as how the use of pesticides and herbicides are not regulated anywhere nearly to the extent they are here. Some products don't even tell you where they're grown or packaged.
There has to be a limit to the profiteering of multinationals and some standards have to be upheld before there are more deaths due to toxic groceries or lead contamination in products shipped to other countries, not to mention all the skinned knuckles from crappy tools breaking while you're using them.laugh

Funny thing is, for the high dollar being charged for these coats and clothes in general, I find it hard to believe people don't see this as a good way to make a living. confused In Texas, I had my boots and saddles repaired and made by a 3rd generation boot and Saddle maker. Quality was great and the prices beat what I found in retail shops.

Maybe I just do not know where to go in Brno. There must still be people who make clothes themselves.dunno

In the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan they make a small ball of rice AFTER they have eaten their food and use it to clean their hands and then their clothes (the rice ball absorbs dirt on clothes) - it's amazing what a 'Chinese' meal can be used for!¬ cool

How about sharing my 100% 'made in china' bed quilt? conversing reindeer
