Is this what's happening more and more? Is this the message that the American political machine is sub conciously proclaiming to the world?
I'm in no way attacking Americans by posting this thread. I've just watched a very interesting documentary which kinda reached the conclussion that, for all it's values of equality, liberty and freedom, America could be seen to be operating under some sort of pseudo imperialistic agenda.
So, it got me thinking...and I thought I'd open it up for debate...RESPECTFUL debate!
Great post and how true it is. It appears that America proclaims itself as the worlds best democracy when it is far from it. It has had the cheek to say that the Russian elections must be fair when everyone knows Florida in 2000 was rigged in Bushes favour. Also when a leader is voted in by his people without any hint of scandal or rigged elections and America hates him they try and stage a coup as has happened to Chavez. Why don't they complain about Zimbabwe and how the elections are unfair?. Well they never will as long as Zimbabwe has nothing America might need. If there was large oil deposits then you would see a different outcome.
I speak from experience having lived all over the world because of my fathers job in the oil business. Also oil is America's main currency.
I've been reading the threads here and elsewhere and that is the underlying tone of many Americans as well as their government. They want oil and they'll take it by force if neccessary.
let's remember one thing - jealousy of something greater than oneself will create inuendo stated as fact. second, rudeness is a weak mans attemt at strength I am so bored with america bashing goodnight
I just love it when everyone outside the U.S. is an expert on the U.S. electoral system. Was your documentary a courtesy of Michael Moore, by chance?
It's certainly not worth the trouble to type out the detailed explanation of the 2000 election again as people believe what they want to believe.
Suffice it to say that if OwlGore had carried his home state in 2000, he would have been the winner. I can't think of a time when a candidate hasn't carried their home state. Even Walter Mondale carried his in the 84 election, even though it was the only one he carried. Incidently, Gore didn't carry his home county or precinct. Perhaps the voters knew something the rest of the country didn't know?
And if you're refering to me Indy, my documentary was on American Historical Treasures as represented by the architecture of your nation, and focussing on what said treaures symbolise.
'Twas just a thought to open this thread. I'd hoped for a reasonable, non accusatory tone to it all...even in the face of scandals etc.
And I DID distinguish between Americans as a society, and the administrations that represent them.
Television stations pronounced Gore the victor in Florida before voting was completed. Many northwest voters when home when they heard the news. Predominately Republican areas. The bigger conspiracy was tv stations colluding to effect the voting. That got missed.
Gore's attorneys did everything they could do to block the military ballots as they tend to vote Republican.
The ballots in question were designed by Democrats for Democrats, and they still couldn't "get it right". Now if you can't develope a ballot simple enough for your constituency to complete, how would it be Bush's fault?
There's more, but I don't care to waste the time or effort.

American views especially welcomed.
