I know several members were going to quit smoking this year. How's it going? My target date is the 15th. I've started taking Chantix. The ciggies are starting to taste like warm air with no real "bite" to them. (that's a good thing)
my target date is on Lent. born and raised a Catholic, sh k most of the cult of it all of later in my 20's, few things hang around though...guilt, Christmas, lent, Palm Sunday, Easter........
Shooting for Lent perfect time of the year for me.....doing it by gradually decreasing and then hopping off...if need be, I'll get some gum...
I stopped the same day as martyg....day 11 and while it was hard for me to begin with, I seem to have forgotten about it most of the time now, but this website is a great distraction!!!
Something to consider. I have a love/hate relationship with cigarettes.
My youngest begged me not to quit until she moves out (where's her backbone??)
I've been smoking since I was 12. That's a lot of triggers to beat.
What do you think would happen to the world, Indy, if the tobacco companies were forced to remove ALL the harmful additives from cigs? Riots? Mahem?
Remember when they banned smoking on flights and that guy went bonkers?
Not sure if it would help you or not - years ago I quit for a year. A friend made me a wooden cigarette. Knowing that the triggers are mainly in the mind and not the blood stream. Anyway. He took a slim dowel rod, cut it to length and slid the wrapper of one of my cigs over it.
I chewed it, tapped it, twirled it. I know it helped me to quit.
I knew smoking was addictive when I started MANY years ago. So the only person I hold responsible is me.
That dowel idea is a good one. The chantix is kicking in as the cigs now taste like hot air. But, like you the triggers are still there. I'm chewing a lot of coffee stir sticks and I will be chisel jawed from chewing all of this gum. It's just the psychological part that's the bear.....at this moment.
There was a time I would have gotten up in the middle of the night and ran to a gas station for a pack of cigs. At this time, I don't think I'd do that.
Like you, it's a love/hate relationship. I won't quit because someone else wants me to...I'm too bull headed for that... For me, it's lung/health issues and I would like to see my grandaughter grow up.
And I used sweeties for the first few days aswell as the nicotine chewing gum...but have noticed my appetite has come back to me in abundance and I feel like I have more energy therefore doing more and walking much more and farther....
Keep the faith Indy, it's mind over matter, we're here for ya hun
I've cut way down, and the 15th is my "due date" to quit. I'm taking that Chantix. When I do light up they taste like hot air w/no flavor (which is a good thing).
May end up buying stock in a gum and straw company as I'm doing a lot of chewing on both.
