if we are supposed to be all equal as humans, and the purpose of equality is NOT to single out any group for any reason...
what is the purpose of holidays & occasions like Black History Month, why not have a month for each ethnicity? like American Indian history month or German history month, and Italian history month and Scottish history month etc.
What about Disney World's "Gay Day"? why not include father & son day or mother & daughter day
if we are going to single out a particular group for special recognition isn't that discrimination against all others?

I think black history month is fine! If i was beaten and dragged away from my home by strangers i'd want to remember and tell my children about it.

Because to some, not everyone is considered equal...

please don't misunderstand me, i mean NO offense to ANYONE.
i just think if we are going to do it for one group we should do it for all groups.
My great grandmother was full blooded Native American. "I" want "MY" land back. "MY" people were here before the "White Eyes", the Blacks (Negras as there were claeed so many years ago), and the Hispanics (back when they were Mexicans).
I seems (technically) this land belongs to Native Americans and Mexicans, That is who was here before the battles for power. And yes, it included canada befoe the French and English.

I didn't think anything you said was offensive. However, would you enjoy being around black people crying and remembering their plight. It's like being a nun in an AA meeting. Displaced!
I know i don't want to go to someone's family reunion and feel left out or confused. Also, they do have their right like people in clubs or those who have faced the same ordeals do to meet.
My point is, think of it as their family reunion. They have something in common regarding their past. Let them remember it how and when they want to.
You could also think of it as a funeral. A group of people who knew the same person coming together to pay their respect.

True. So i guess it's up to the ones who don't do it to organise it themselves. I don't see a german going to organise an 'american history month' for them.

Whatever! My brother married a girl from Germany, and she knows EVERYTHING.......just ask her.
diogenes: Hell! You don't even have to ask her...she'll tell you anyway.Sometimes I just turn and walk off, and she just keeps going like the energizer bunny is in her mouth or something:blah blah:
Sounds like family strife to me.
Perhaps you need to set up a reconciliation meet ?
See, there's more to life than astrology! You could be having family barbecues and beating up the woman who goes blah blah blah most in the family.

For the record....I put very little stock in astrology.

And who says there are no Nuns at those Meetings???
I think those who don't have their 'history month' , don't because they don't want one.
It's not really a racial thing. We have these organisations because we have lots in common.
For instance, we have kenyan clubs all over the world and so do other african countries.
We don't spew hate or segregate ourelves, but normally meet to organise parties, funerals or help out those who are struggling. If i had a problem and went into the city square in helsinki asking for help, i'd probably be deported ( because you should be financially sound to be here in the first place). With people who come from the same place as i do, i can be sure i'll be ok if anything bad ever happens to me. God forbid!!
Hey, we even have parties here to celebrate our own national holidays. A little home away from home like the african americans have i presume.

Tell me about it! I will always remember Sister Cecilia coming to school one day with her hair all made up wearing shoes to match her lipstick. Sister Jane was next to her looking 'hotter'.
One of my brothers dated a gorgeous black girl for about three month. It's not a popular decision from either perspective, particularly in the Southern U.S. Although admittedly, I feel like it is slowly becoming more acceptable compared to past times.
I met, and almost had a long term relationship with a nice black girl when I was about 19. She asked me what my parents would think about me dating a black girl, I was honest, I told her they probably wouldn't be thrilled about it. She dumped me.
Blue and Red baseball teams. Blue team could have 10 outs, red team just 2. After a few innings the score was 57 to 2 in favor of the blue team. Then the blue team said for the rest of the innings lets each of us have 3 outs. Now it's equal, let's see who wins.
