At different stages in our lives we meet different people ... sometimes something they share with us makes a lasting impression and OR is simply a beautiful compliment that makes us feel good about ourselves ...

An image that someone posted earlier reminded me of such a time ...

It was during my last parent's evening at school before I retired from teaching ... A parent had been searching for me at the end of the evening (as they had not made an appointment), found me shook my hand warmly then saying !Ahhh! There you are, Pleased to meet you Mrs ....... Then added with a twinkle in their eye " Right now show me ... how do you walk on water? Because from my daughter has been telling me about you, you should be able to!! grin took me a few ticks to work out what it all meant, then I burst out laughing then It just brought tears to my eyes!!! crying blushing yay

I once worked at a Call Crisis Centre for suicide prevention. We were instructed, because of the work-load, to not spend more than half an hour per call. I was warned about a certain person who regularly called, and after her half hour would call CCC in other towns around the country - everyone considered her as wasting their time... she always had the Same problem and no-one seemed able to get to the root of her problem....and anyway, she seemed to always be feeling "suicidal".

One evening I decided to heck with the rules ....and we talked for 5 hours!... and found the problem!
She just needed to take that long, which nobody had ever given her.

For anonymity no names of counsellors were used, but she wanted to be able to report back to me if she managed to accomplish what we had worked out as her solution. I told her that when she phoned to tell the Duty Counsellor to write in the message book "I got to the garden gate"..... Only I would know what it meant.

Two weeks later I found this message written in the book. And she never called the Crisis Centre again!

That was a great feeling .... to know that I had managed to be able to help this person who was so desperate ... and all it took was Time.

This to me is what makes life worth living, appreciation of the things we do even if we don't expect it.

Fortunately I can think of many times when I've been given thanks and shown appreciation, like FOS from students and parents, like Smoky for voluntary work and on other occasions when I least expected it.

I can't give one specific example because each time it happens I experience an equally nice warm feeling and the knowledge that what I do sometimes make a difference. I guess compliments I hear from a third party which have originated from my kids about me give me the greatest pride.

What comes around goes around so I also try to make sure I show appreciation to people who give help or are kind to me.

Finally, most people I meet make a lasting impression, sometimes not very favourable but mostly good. Even seemingly negative impressions left behind can have a positive effect if we try to turn them to our advantage.

I get embarrassed when people say nice things about me! blushing

(however, it DOES feel good and I do believe I've added a little sunshine into the lives of a few people along my way......and, having experienced some rather nasty things in my life, I've been able to listen to the woes of other people and empathise with them without showing any pity as it really helps if somebody is mentally cruel to you to get you off your bum bum and feeling sorry for yourself)

They say sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind - and I just love being cruel - provided I see the result is somebody fighting back and regaining their self-esteem! dancing

I have a friend and a colleague who took great risk to invest in my company. He is married with 4 kids. As things have progressed we are closer, but it takes time and this has created hardships on him also, he was not expecting the new baby, and his work is not doing so well. But about a month ago, he wrote me saying how he still believed in what I am trying to do, he wishes he could help more, but he can not.

This has meant a lot.cheers

Time is probably the most precious Gift People can give to each other.

I'd be dead if my Friends back then would have gone according to the Motto,No Souls Saved After the Half Hour.

It's great what those Callcenters do,though.thumbs up

Like me you,ve got a diamond of a business partner. Mine worked on the business for a year without taking a penny! She told me she was investing and had total and utter faith in me. This year things are looking good and at last she,s getting something from it. It,ll come good for both of you if you just keep working at it.

thumbs up
