If you're interested in finding out what is the food you and your family eat try watching a show on CBC called "MARKETPLACE". It's an amazing show that really finds out what misleading practices companies are using on us.

The first show I want to bring up is food with the MADE IN CANADA LABEL. I'm sure you've all seen these on no name (generic)products in Loblaws or Dominion. Well according to the show there's lots of products that have the label but the product isn't growing in Canada. It's finished processing in Canada which is why it can be labeled a product of Canada. Garlic, ice cream, Frozen fish products....all stuff that should be grown in Canada are brought in from other countries. Countries like China and Vietnam which have severe issues with mercury in their seafood products and using banned chemicals on their farm land.

The second show I want to review is the one about those pricks at the HEALTH AND STROKE FOUNDATION. Everyone has seen their HEALTH CHECK label on foods here in Canada. Many people trust it and some families choose based on what carries that label without reading the content......which is not the wisest thing to do. According to the show THE HEART AND STROKE FOUNDATION charges companies to use their label on the food. The show also shows that many products with the HEALTH CHECK LABEL on them FAIL! FAIL! FAIL! other grading tests for sodium, sugar and sat fat content. On a personal note I used to buy many products with that label on them and my blood pressure went up. After reviewing just a few products in my fridge I found that the products I was eating did have high salt content.....HOW COULD THIS BE! They carry the HEALTH CHECK LABEL right? Misleading Canadians isn't right you pricks and from now on I will NOT BUY PRODUCTS THAT CARRY THE CHECK.

Good info. I must confess I don't read the labels that often!

MARKETPLACE is for sure one of the best shows CBC has ever had.

Have you read the book by Adria Vasil called" your guide to the most environmentally friendly information, products, and services in Canada-Ecoholic (when your addicted to the planet)" Its absolutely disgusting what some commercially produced foods have in them and we , the consumer, are not informed. Even regulation of items like our vegetables are not protecting us from multiple source contamination of toxins and poisons in low doses. We, the consumer, have a responsibility to educate ourselves to dangerous companies before supporting their practices with our money and purchases.peace
