Do some accents turn you off? Can an accent turn you off completely to the point of not even wanting to have a second conversation?

Not generally.
Thick heavy accents tend to frustrate me if it's say... my college professor trying to teach me something and I can't understand what's being said.

But normally accents rather intrigue me.

Some European accents just don't do it for me. I once spoke to this guy.......well that was the last he heard from me. He had a squeaky voice on top of it all.
There are some african accents that turn me off too. What's the point if you can't even hear what they are saying?

There's only one accent that turns me off, but then the person it belongs to turns me off too! That would be my ex fiance's accent, not that I'm turned off by all british accents, just his. If I were to hear him speak again I would be forced to beat him about the head and shoulders with a blunt object!grin cheers beer

Okay, here we go the ones I find a big turn off and that I absolutely detest are as follows : Australian, American, NewZealand, French, Welsh, Scottish, Irish, Mancunian, Any accent from the south of England. They are all barf to my ears, and the Brummie accent (Birmingham) is double barf

The ones that turn me on smitten are Italian, Greek, Turkish,Canadian.
& these towns from the north of uk..Scouse (Lpool) Geordie (Newcastle) Leeds (West Yorks)

So anyone on here with any fancy ideas of being my boyfriend please make sure you've got the right accent before you apply or you've no chance laugh

Zell, why do you do this to me? rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing

I don't mind an american accent, it's a scandinavian one that roll eyes doesn't do it for me.... A finnish accent is especially annoying!!!!!!!!!!!

Good idea on application requirements! Wouldn't it be perfect if they had information on accents next to people's profiles?

thumbs up

As long as speech is intelligible, accents do not move me one way or the other.

An unattractive voice will keep him in my 'let's just be friends' box.

laugh Oooh, I know what you mean about Finnish accents, I heard Mika Hakkinen being interviewed once. But, he was trying to speak in english so maybe that's why it sounded a bit weird.

Years ago I spoke to 2 guys that I liked online, one was from Texas and one from Louisiana. I soon fell out of online love with them after hearing their accents or drawl or whatever it was, they spoke so slow and boring yawn I was getting very annoyed by end of the phonecalls cos I'm such an hyper person and speak so fast that no one can ever understand a word I say anyhow. I really can't stand slow accents laugh

Best place for the people with unattractive accents is the "just be

friends box"..

They are no good for anything else, just make sure you put a big

golden padlock on the box to make sure they've no chance of

escaping
