When I saw this on another forum, the thread about accents immediately came to mind, so I thought I'd pass it along.
In 2006, the Washington Biological Survey Department of the Biology in Washington State University Seattle decided to carry out a survey on the state corvid population; the ravens and crows of all kinds. They caught and tagged about 14,000 birds over a period of six months, and then sat back to await developments, of one kind or another.
Well, the development they got was NOT what they were expecting.
One morning in the mail they received a roughly addressed letter, marked, in crayon 'To hoom it mite consern.'
Opening up the letter, they removed a tatty piece of cardboard, again, covered in crayon-script. After a lot of head-scratching, they deciphered the appalling letters, and came to the conclusion that it was a form of critique of their programme.
It read as follows -
'Dere Surs or madums - jest ta letcha know that after keching the bird, I keerfuly folode the instruxions and it wuz the wust thing wat i ever ett in my hole lif. heer there bak for you to hav an other thingk for the nex time'.
Stuck to the letter with an glutinous brown substance was the tag from a bird's leg. It read 'Wash.Biol.Surv'.
