Hi all, I was just sitting here surfing through CS & I thought to myself, 'Theres not many New Zealanders on here' & then I thought, "I wonder how many people even know anything about New Zealand" So for all you non-kiwis here's my question. What do you know about New Zealand & have you ever been here?

Hi to be honest and ashamed, I don't know much at all about your country, how hot in the summer? how cold in the winter? do you have mountains, deserts, swamps, praries? What type of government do you have?

Hi It's not something to be ashamed about, There are people in NZ who dont even know where my home town is, there are more important things in peoples lives than the geography of NZ
Summer in Palmerston North gets in the low 30's (celcius) & winter can go as low as -3 or -4. It gets colder in other parts of the country.
Yes we have mountains, Mt Ruapehu is probably the most well known in the central North Island, we dont have deserts as such but we have a place called 'The Desert Road' which is in the central North Island too (right next to Ruapehu) where it snows in winter & looks like a desert in summer. Swamps yes, in some areas & praries?? i'm not sure of the definition.
Our Govt is a mixed member parliament (i.e. no one particular party runs the country, elected officials from many parties have input)

spiceygamble: I admit not not knowing much about NZ, aside from all the stories my Grampa has told me(from WW2). He swears I simply must go there one day.
... that & I swear the best lamb comes from NZ. *mmm... lamb, drool...
Your Grampa is right, and yes we do have great lamb, best served with a healthy topping of mint sauce.

New Zealand is made up of North Island and South Island and had some weirdo film made on location about 'middle earth' - right?
Hey - I always as a young man meeting this old dude with a long snowy white beard who was a retired kiwi pilot (yup, he made his living flying fruit/fruitcases)....anyways he says to me:
'If you are prepared to work hard and want to become rich emmigrate to Australia.....however, if you want to work hard and have a reasonable standard of living but know you've got very little chance of ever becoming really rich emmigrate to New Zealand'
I always wanted to go to New Zealand.......now I'm better off I plan on going in 2010 for about three months. I've been practicing my 'haka' war dance on gullible exotic women in the privacy of my bedroom - so far they seem really impressed!
