Just got thru watching the movie "WAR" with Jet Li and Jason Statham. Good movie, I enjoyed it, especially the twist at the end.
However, I was very disappointed with the fight scenes.
Why is it after a martial arts fighter makes a few really great movies with fantastic fight scenes, they seem to tone down the fight scenes.
It happened with Steven Segal, Van Dam, Jackie Chan, now Jet Li & Jason Statham, I know there are others, I just can't think of their names right now. Is it because they are getting older? The main reason I like these movies is for the martial arts fight scenes.
I bet if Bruce Lee or his son Jason were still alive they wouldn't cut down on their fight scenes.
Easy because of hollywood can't keep up with them so they water down the fights. And make them slow down:(don't worry for the upcoming JACKIE CHAN and JET LImovie. The fights won't be slow down:)PS Bruce Lee son name was Brandon Bruce Lee:)don't get confused with Jason Scott Lee who played Brandon dad Bruce in Dragon the Bruce Lee story
I think you'll find it's rarely the martial artist who determines the action. It's the writers, producers, directors & a few technicians on the cutting groom floor. Rarely do the martial artists actually agree with what airs, unless they've had a hand in the production of the film & even then it's only a small vote.

I think I wasn't very clear on my meaning. "Tone down" was the wrong choice of words, what I mean is after the first few movies where they really show their fighting skills, in subsequent movies there is less & less of the fight scenes and the ones they do have are shorter & not as good as in the first movies they made.
Daniel4021: And sometimes they do it for the effect...
Sadily that is true:(hollywood don't know how to show Jackie Chan.jet li,Tony Jaa,Donnie Yen,Sammo Hung,Yuen Biao ect in there full speed and tallent !!But!! thank for the upcoming martial art epic FORBIDDEN KINGDOMstarring Jackie Chanand Jet li Oh yeah nice pic Daniel did you there is a new Punishermovie coming out:)It's a reboot ,we are going to see the real Punisherin action:)

Cutting groom floor. How clever an observation.
I am not a big fan of many martial art movies, strictly on the basis of reality, or at least on trying to make it look real. I also have trouble getting past many of the real martial artists acting abilities. I prefer to watch to real competitions, such as UFC, Pride or TKO in Canada.

I like the UFC too:)!!But!! I doubt that any of those are going to be still fighting when they are in their 40s ,50s or 60s I mean Jackie Chan is 52 and Jet li is 43,Sammo Hung is 56 and so on Jackie chan broke all his bones and crack open his head. And still going:)All the guys I mention are just as tough as the guys in the UFC and so on:)PS Check out some of all the guys I mention hong kong movies they can act and their hong kong movies are better then the hollywood movies:)
