My almost 17 yr old daughter is having some major problems with her dad, so based on conversations I had with her very late into the night last night, conversations with others this morning, and some ensuing soul-searching, I have decided it's best if I not leave town after all, as planned. (She and her sister are supposed to be staying with him and their stepmom while I'm gone, but I've decided I need to be available in case she needs a legal, safe place to go as a last-ditch alternative.)
So I'll see you on the forums over the next week after all...
Which is a great thing for me, cuz after only two weeks in CS, I know I'll find some great laughs and support, which I'm going to need very badly! :-D
We only get one go round with our children...enjoy every moment... I too am happy my oldest son is off the Navey Destroyer and in the Navel linguestics school in Moneray, California....
Meilandra you are such a great mom and I'm glad that your daughter had the courage to open up and share her feelings and thoughts. Sometimes our kids are going through "major" things, but have a hard time opening up. Hopefully the issues will be resolved and that you will have an opportunity to reschedule your trip for a later time.
Thanks everyone... I'm hoping for things to be resolved at least temporarily: if I can get him to change back the original custody schedule the way it was before I planned this trip, then I'll get them back this Friday for almost a whole week, which will hopefully defuse the situation temporarily while we work on a longer-term solution.
Well, all this has turned out really well. :-) I've had my older daughter Sara for two weeks straight and we're having a blast... When I picked her up from her dad's on the 27th at 1 am, we promised each other we'd try really hard not to kill each other in the first month, and so far so good.
Her stress level has gone down so much that instead of the C's she's been getting in AP Calculus most of this year, she got 100% on 9 out of 12 quizzes the past two weeks, one hadn't been scored yet, and she can drop the three lowest scores!
She also popped out of bed yesterday morning at 6am to show up as a walk-in for the SAT's, so that's done. :-)
She turned 17 last week, and we had a big party here last night, everyone behaved, two girlfriends slept over, and when I got up for church, the entire party area downstairs was COMPLETELY cleaned up, vacuumed, recycling put out, and everything!
Thanks sweetie, I am SO happy. My life is so much better since I made my soon-2-b-x leave, things are calm around here, peaceful, the kids are basically cooperative, it's amazing how fast the stress level dropped for all of us.
And high on my gratitude list is that I have found this site and some wonderful, caring, very interesting people. :-D
