It works because there are 5 numbers in each colour. Once you have selected the colour the programme knows it is one of 5 numbers. Then in the houses the programme puts one number in each..... therefore whichever house you chose will tell the programme what your number is.
As for the opening doors bit at the end.... well it is programmed to show your number no matter which door you open and then random population of the remaining two.

Funny. I was sent this link in my Email and I figured it out within a couple of minutes. Of course, if you know how a computer chews on data, in the end it's not so mysterious.

OK guys, use your skepticism here. The program says to choose the color of the number you picked. When you tell what color it is, and pick the house it's in you are letting the compute know what number you picked. {If you lie to the computer about which number you picked, you will get a different result.) Clue number two: No matter what door you choose first, the computer just automatically makes your number pop up behind the first door. Remember, these are not real solid doors with actual objects behind them. These are computer generated images.
