How effective are dating sites? ( Archived) (25)

I came out of a six year realtionship about a year ago and I got to say, it's been a little tough meeting women. I work in a small office environment so there really aren't any options there, and I go out with friends about three time a week but meeting women in a bar hasn't worked out that great either.

So, I have been trying the dating sites for the past few months. Well, the results there haven't been much better. While I have received interest, it's either from someone I'm not interested in or communication dries up during email. I have been on a few dates, but chemistry just hasn't been there. I have a friend who is doing the online thing as well and is having similar issues. However, I worked at a jewelry store a year and a half ago as a transitionary job, and I did sell a few wedding sets to couples who have met online, so I know it works for some people. Just wondering what the success rates are.

Have any of you tried the paid online dating sites and what are your experiences? Is it me or is it just that damm tough out there?

I hope I don't have to resort to cruising halls or something.

Hey, I've met my last 24 wives on dating sites. I swear by them.

well i guess anything that puts you in a target rich environment can only help. i know 3 couples who met online and have been together more than 5 years, so for them it has worked. i think you will find your online love life similar to real life, if you're really lucky you'll find her.

and yes it's dam tuff out there. whether on a paid site or a free one.

why not cruise the halls? take a class you're interested in, join a club or game league. my brother took an oriental cooking course at adult eduation (nights at the high school), another target rich environment, where his lack of skill made him a darling of the class. He didn't find his true love there but he had a quite a few dates. and now makes great fried rice.

It's what you make of it...like everything else....I do think the paid ones you tend to get more people that are seriously looking, but, even there you get all kinds....some people do it just to 'date', have someone to go out with on a Saturday night; some just want to get laid; some just like playing the game; and some want a relationship and all that implies. Just finding the right one.....which is like looking for a needle in a haystack.

When you're ready, she will appear.

I have several friends who met their partners through dating sites and they have started a wonderful life together.


The dating sites can build up you a new life or just to ruin your reputation. The choice is your. You only decide whether to trust.
