To me its more about listening to opinions, and enjoying the laughs... I enjoy my friends company in the flesh but I am one that even hates telephones....nothing better than a good chat over a vino.

possible, yes. Would help a lot if I would meet the other one in real some day. Still there is lot missing. I wouldn't see how one reacts spontaneously. Cyber friendship could only be an 'in-between-solution' for me.
You can have many types of friends. Each one fills a void and has its own place in your life.
And you must admit that our friends online have kept us company at times when others were not available.
I personally can see no difference between having a friend a mile away or having one a world away. You will always long for their human presence, but that is not always possible. So if I send an email to a friend across town, why is that different than sending one across the country or even across the world?
I can't see limiting myself to having friendships with only people that I can socialize with in person. In my case, there are not a whole lot of people to pick from if I insist upon physical presence.

Do they cause concerns ? Do people live up to the expectations of a friendship ? Can it be as good as real ?
any comments ?
If we are talking about a friendship, i believe that it can flourish over the net regardless of distance. And it will eventually be a more than real one. Both parties can live up to its *expectations* if they become good friends.
Friends make you laugh. Friends soothe you, comfort you. You have a nice time with your friends and they have a nice time with you. They also support you when everything look too dimm, they see through you and know when to be there for you.
Difference is, that some *rules* are a little different here. For example, it takes a bit more *being involved* actively with your friends, because the only means of communication you have is the words you type. In real life, you can transmit things without talking, here, you have to type. But your friends will catch on to what your mood is from your first post. Just like irl

This was really well said. Exactly what I was thinking...
That, and in this area, I'm not exactly wealthy enough to have a multitude of friends in person.

I agree, i feel i have made some good friends on CS, where i live there are not many ppl who it is really possible to have a proper conversation with because of there understanding of the English language.

ooh riya this is a good thread too I certainly believe in them, when somebody goes missing I usually know and no it is not because I am on all the time because I work but when I get home and get things done and settle I read the threads and post and notice and if I haven't noticed somebody please forgive me it is only that there are so many, but back to your commentary, I care if you are on here, I care if a lot of my girl/guy friends are on here so I think that if it is delusional? I choose it but I think it is real, to the extent of just how real and close you can come to somebody online, then perhaps really meet, thanks for asking
My Real friends here in my village sometimes I don`t see them for ages - but my cyba-friends I can chat to most of the time. And we do sort of get to know each other - and keep the hope of actually meeting someday - even if it`s just a coffee in an airport lounge when they pass thru.
Only one of the sad things is when one communicates quite a lot with someone, thinking you got a friend, and then they just vanish - without even a goodbye - that is a bit of a let down. But then that can happen in real life too.
OMG .. Didnt expect such touching , emotional replies
I think CS grows on to you and the friends we make on here can translate to being real , very much !!!
As Fallingman says " medium is just a medium "
I have been here for about 5 months now , sometimes almost entire day , have laughed , felt sad , been appreciated and taken care of .. just as real as it could get. It all depends on how seriously you take whom and your general predisposition.
The friends i have had on here have moved a chord with me. My first friend was Robbie and then soon BEB , the first few people i really got to knowing closely on CS and i treasure the friendship we share. There have been so many lovely people i have gotten to know then onwards ...
So, i guess its up to us really and i hope to meet them soon in real life too.
