Always get responses such as 'intolerant', 'too highly strung', 'what's the big fuss' and similar reactions that tell you that people think you have come from another galaxy, and that there is nothing wrong but it is your perception that is wrong.

Manolito:
After the mess, i ended up suing the government and the city counsil because it was entirely their fault. They refused to settle and buy me a new car, so it took me 3-4 years to get there but they ended up paying much much more in the end

Good for you Manolito! There is a basis of whats called "common law" - it does not need to be written down in any rule books ..... and that means that no-one has the right to destroy your property, or cause your property to be destroyed. Another common law is that no one has he right to be enriched at anothers expense.

In SA there was/is (?) dont know if it still exists - an organisation called "Consumer Council" and when you felt a business dealer had done you wrong - you report it - if the shop does not honour the "Code of Business Practice Ethics" then this council goes in and completely audits their books and calls in all the town Inspectors to inspect every single thing in their shop..... Fire Dept, Health Dept, Labour Dept, Environmental Control Dept, etc etc. This council is so feared, that the mere mention of reporting to them gets you either your cash back or better service. Especially good for those shops who want to give you a "credit" note instead of a cash back refund for faulty goods.

(My sister bought a genuine hand-woven persian rug, because it had a price ticket at a ridiculously low price. The deal was already done when the Manager appeared, and insisted it had the wrong price tag, and that she owed more money. She told him she will dicuss it with the Consumer Council and if they felt she was in the wrong she would pay up. She never heard another word from him.)

The secret, I think, is to be very very cool and in control, not get excited - merely state your case - and stand there...... waiting for an improvement in service, reasonable explanation, or action - and dont budge till your problems are sorted out .... especially if you have already paid for whatever it is that is not satisfatory.....? And ask them what THEY would expect from you?

If consumers dont stand up for themselves ... then service will just deteriorate. You know - everything works down to the lowest common denominator.

Not so much for my rights as for myself....

At work last year.
I was being bullied and I really don't like bullies and I was being challenged by people in authority for no better reason than (having noticed I don't ''bow my head'') them wanting to see me bow my head.
Result: Got fired in July.
They pushed and I shoved but I stuck it out until it got so bad they had to let me go.
Got a little compensation for the 12 years I'd given them devil
Luckily got a better job in a better school, better pay by September wink
Still miss my friends at the old place, though moping

Moree or less the same here in Spain Smokey. If you are not happy (with just cause,of course) just ask for the complaints book. There are two copies, you take one (to the police) the other remains in the book which must be available for inspection at all times. It works every time, one of the reasons we get mostly good service here.thumbs up

When I first arrived here in CH and we`d go shopping, when we got home and unpacked what we`d bought and the stuff was faulty, my son would get sort of maudlin and say "Things are different here - not like in SA" and just throw the stuff away. He had this feeling he described as "What its like to be a foreigner in a strange country, you cant expect them to be the same as where we come from" ... he even likened it to the sympathy he felt for the Black folk back in SA who were mostly misunderstood by whites because of the language and culture difficulties and misunderstandings.

Now that he has integrated and has more confidence .. he now returns the goods, argues, insists on his right to unpack and inspect, or upgrade to better quality, or demand his cash refund.

Sooo - so far, he still doesnt give Mama her credit for her initial nagging on his rights - he now thinks his rights are his own invention!

Ah, I see Phoenix bumped this thread!

Thanks. I have something to report. Happened this weekend.

Went into a restaurant in another town (quite far from my home), the place was terribly crowded with irate waiters rushing around. After ordering some drinks, decided the place was far too noisy to enjoy a meal in, so went to the till to pay for the drinks and tell them we were leaving.

The waiter grabbed the bills out of my hand before I could sort them into which denomination I was going to hand over, and then he threw the change down onto a nearby table! I took the money and walked out.

Later I found the back of my coat and one sleeve covered in candle wax - and figured out the waiter must have turfed the melted wax at me as I turned to walk out!

If I had noticed what he had done - I would probably be still sitting in prison awaiting trial for Assault and Battery ... and probably a Phychiatric Evaluation of my Violent Mental Aberation!

rolling on the floor laughing devil I leave with the belief of "Vengeance is Mine sayeth the Lord"! You see, when one does not take vengeance personally, then God does it on my behalf! But if I do it - then enough has been done, and I prefer Gods version..........cheers Its more peaceful for megrin and then I don`t get locked up for assault and battery.

Yeah...I know...you're right. And physical violence never pays off in the end.....it's more a question of who you know...that's the best legal protection today....connections.

Oh yes.

I spent four years trying to stand up for my rights. It cost me thousands, wrecked my relationship, almost killed me and on my campaign, I hurt alot of people.

I got a great response. From people going through the same as I did.

But it consumed my whole being and not a place I would want to go to again.

I always do Smoky, how do you think I got where I am...and the story continuous...
laugh

Sometimes people ( administratives/ public servants, etc )don't want to uncover all the rights that one has. You have to dig them yourself and go back and ask for them.
Normal sleep at their door until they accept to recognise my rights.

happy place
