Hi , are you a lone parent who works , but is living in debt , with daily stress , and just simply not getting by!
Join the club!
Im a lone parent who has struggled with no support from the non resident parent - (CSA have only applied themselves when the MP was involved and have still got nothing)
The impact of funding basics like school bus fare is kncking me off my feet. Im overdrawn , cant meet mortgage payments, live on such a tight budget , and cant afford house maintainance or any form of social life, even though Ive worked all my adult life and want to be a good role model to my children by not becoming unemployed.
I want my children to have pass times such as clubs but simply cant afford them.
I know im not alone as many others say the same as me, we work and for what ?

What my point is , we get no help toward school transport, school meals, school trips, school uniform, council tax , rent/mortgage etc , yet we are on less than the unemployed in some cases, as they get all these allowances and more.
We also have to get to and from work and if we get a chance to do extra hours at work we get penalized by our working/family tax being cut back.
Most of us live with huge debt and stress, which directly impacts on our childrens welfare and our own health.
We arnt spenders , we dont want the newest or the best , we just want to be able to live without being in poverty.

I have set up a petition which i am hoping to send to the PM at the beginning of June , and if you want to get on board and get heard, I will send you a copy and ask you to send to your MPs individually.
If you would like a copy to sign or would like me to send you more info email me at singleparentslivinginpoverty@yahoo.co.uk

The CSA are another issue and the non resident parents who dont support thier own children are a main cause for this poverty trap ,however the government are aware of that yet , I , 6 years on still get no support from my working ex.
If he owed Income tax , he would now being doing time in prison.

Get on board and get our voices heard , i want to get the petition in by the beginning of june , so if i can send you a copy , get it signed and send it me back by then and i will send all names to Mr Brown- its only going to get worse if we dont make ourselves heard.

thank you , your support is greatly appreciated .....ive already been to my MP who glazed over when i explained that our outgoings due to price rises well exceed our income and this isnt reflected in our income or gov assistance (ie CSA kicking backsides)- yet this gov dont want 'ferrel' teens out in the street at night time, they want us to work and they want us to eat healthily - so i assume this gov want us to eat baked beans and lentils and get our teens to relish stamp collecting as we wont be able to fund any outside the home activity to ensure they are aimless teenagers or fund any where near a good diet!

It also handily keeps us in our place in the workforce as any promotion etc would be detrimental to our income......
I would suggest the majority of people like me are in admin , basic roles (please not meant to be offensive) where we as part timers do far more in our hours that our full time counter parts- those who have signed so far are Police support staff, PCT staff, Local gov staff and local education authority staff........

Good luck to your daughter- and please get her to email me and i will pass her the petition and hopefully she too will know , like me, lots of others in the same boat.

Hi have mailed it to her. Initally when her ex left here benefits were worked out incorrectly and she was over paid she contacted them to say she thought is was to and they said it was correct. Over a year later she got a letter sayingshe had been over paid and they were stopping her benefits!!! how was this her fault ??

She also works part time and was offered increase in hours and promotion, she had to turn this down because she would have lost help with her childminding and housing. During winter some weeks she was left with 10 pounds to heat her home and feed her and her daughter, but still she tries to maintain her self respect by working. I have so much respect for her. But where is the justice in this.

thats so dreadfull , and at a time she needs all the help she can get ....ive fought all the way (suppose it keeps you going ) ive been to the councillor , MP , ive put formal complaints in and generally made a pest of myself- ive found the csa appauling and have been compenstated but all this make you weary and my enregy should be on my boys!
i had heard this before about mis calculating benefits and you may find a support page on the gmtv website as i think they covered it- she may get some back if she shouts loud enough!
I really wishe her all the luck as its so hard being a single parent let alone work and have all the stress.

there are so many people trying to raise their kids well , yet we get so many hurdles.....
get my petition , email me on my address singleparentslivinginpoverty@yahoo.co.uk i will send you the petition , sign it , either send it on to others in same boat or send it back _GET HEARD!!
if your MP gets 10 or more letters or names ref an issue , it has to be raised at question time in the houses of parliament...
bare in mind prices are going up daily and its going to get worse.
my brother in law is an economist and has predicted the credit crunch some years ago and it sgoing to get far worse- my sister is a tax inspector and she was saying the tax for lower paid is going up (bare in mind large multis like tesco pay far far less than small businesses!!!)

it all stinks! ---but if we shout loud enough we might just get heard...

hi not trying to cause controversy but saw a few little digs there to the unemployed i am a governments worse nightmare unemployed teenage mother in a council flat. but even on benefits i seriously struggle each week to afford things if it wasn't for my dad i don't know what i would do. also getting off benefits is extremely hard as you said you have to pay council tax, rent, towards schooling and as soon as you start working all your benefits are gone. the only way i can do it is by studying while on benefits so i can go straight into a high enough paid job to actually live independantely of finacial help.
i actually understand people who cheat benefits because benefits alone is not enough to live on and neither is getting a job which pays less than 30 grand! what it is with the world!

keep bugging the CSA because if you don't they close your case after 3 years also if CSA do get there arses in gear then you can take him to court for not paying for all this time. (my friend did it and he had to pay her 10 grand)

p.s. scouts and brownies are good extra activities cause if you talk to them they do actually help towards paying for the camp and things they try and make it so that any child from any background can join.

sorry , didnt mean offence as this isnt about being unemployed etc ,
it really cant be easy being unemployed and i realise its a very hard place to be....

my point is , we as working parents would be better off unemployed -

i would be better off as i wouldnt have to fund school meals, transport etc and all the other things listed......my boys bus fare is £600 a year .........

my freind is just being taken to court for non payment of council tax because she was on reduced wage for 2 weeks due to sickness, and no one will listen or help her......she didnt make 1 payment and now has to go to court.

ive been on the csa's backs since 2003 , as a tip to anyone else with same problem email them every month , or they wont look at your case.
my ex moves jobs as soon as his wages get docked at source....they then take another year to find him!
his tax is deducted tho!

good luck with your studies- this petition isnt about judging the unemployed REALLY!
its about how , if you work , you actually have no money! bizarre from a labour govenment

cubs and scouts arnt free and unless you are unemployed you arnt entitled to cheap /free places......the leaders at the local group didnt help me at all in fact looked down thier noses....
its alot less for these types of clubs, but my 2 went away twice at £25 each -that £100 i didnt have!plus uniform ,plus subs.........

ive been at this 7 years now and am sick of just getting by.........having worked all my adult life , i have no life!

i really hope you are succesful on your learning path and i know the unemployed have lots of stress and distress .......
but its not easy being a working parent either as there really is no finacial gain at all.
