I have been wanting to try this and was looking over the different brands and flavors the other day seems the German is the strongests. Does anyone drink this and if so what is the best in your opinion?

There are 3 varieties that are preferred as 'best'. French, Swiss or German, Read up on it via ..Google. I trust the French as they 'invented' it. It certainly is the most expensive and well worth it. 'Strong' is not necessarily the best in this category. Enjoy any and all!

Your definately right about the French variety, though there's an alcohol limit for legal reasons as clearly they cant sell the same stuff through supermarkets that makes you wand to cut your own ears off.
Any of the Booze warehouses in France will be more than happy to supply you with however much of this stuff as you want.
Sadly though the days of travelling to France on a booze cruise for me are over as its not financially worth it, and the cut throat way British supermarkets sell alcohol means spirits are cheaper here than in France anyway.
Champagne is about 30 per cent cheaper there though, and imported wine as well as domestic is too.
Ironically, a lot of the time its cheaper to buy alcohol on the ferry than anywhere else
Then again i didn't travel all that way just to buy alcohol, if you know what i mean

I have tasted it. Don't like it. Not much else to say.
Well I have been wanting to try the good stuff and since the US is allowing it in for personal consumption again, but I was reading a site and it said the stuff sold state side is lacking the Thujone. I was stunned to find so many flavors and varieties available.

I had it in France. Don't know about the German stuff. Not my kind of thing--don't like the taste of liquorice and don't like 'thick' liquors. Also, too much of this stuff can make a person sick, if they are not used to it. It sounds like the French version may be a bit smoother or milder to the taste. Depends on what you're looking for.

Honestly I'm not sure what I will like but according to the web there are a lot of flavors. I never drink in excess but I like to try new stuff this is something I have yet to try this out. Was thinking about buying a bottle of Absinth Beetle just to have on the shelf the beetle in the bottle would be a great conversation piece.

When I tried it, it was kind of a cool experience. A boyfriend and I were driving through France. We were in a rural area, two lane motorway. We stopped at a small restaurant at lunchtime. It was full of farmers and such--all men. They were all drinking absinth before having lunch. They mix it with water in small, thin glasses. I think the original and traditional flavor is liquorish. I think it is meant to be used only as an aperitif. Don’t think anyone should try to get drunk on it—may make you sick and give a nasty hangover. But, again, my knowledge of this subject is limited. However, the experience, the rural area of France, the small restaurant, lunchtime and all the farmers drinking it, cool and memorable.
The stuff you can buy today is not the real green fairy. Part of the original drink has been eliminated from the product. The real absinthe contains mild poisins and toxins that are not allowed in beveridges today. So don't expect to experence the same thing that was experenced in the past.
