mychelle: starving children in Burma

Its sad to hear of children suffering anywhere....even worse when you hear about how their own govt is dealing with it.
I remember hearing that in some areas officials went through with elections instead of dealing with the emergencies.doh

cyclone happened several weeks ago, but aid isn't getting to those people who need it most.....took a while before it was agreed to let doctors and foreigners in to help, and to allow UN to bring in aid.

yes its rather sad when it takes so long to allow people who want to help to come in and do the job...these people having been living on nothing and no water and babies that need mothers and fathers...they dserve all the help we can give them...

Can't imagine what a young lady in Austria went through at the hands of her father, and her 6 surviving children. Her mother, his wife...

Have worked with foster children, but can not wrap around in my head who and why someone can do what they do.

As much as we read and hear about things like this, I just don't understand crossing the line.....

not all abusive people have parents etc that did that to them, and not all people that were abused turn out doing evil things.

Look up Robert Ressler.... could you do what he did with out going insane????

He must have been something else to actually have to go into the minds of the people he profiled.

There are many things going on in the world that we rarely hear about,so many stories slip through the cracks and when they come to light we all wonder how it could have gone unnoticed.
People choose to wear blinders and selectively not see what disturbs them.
The situation with the father and his 'basement' family just totally boggles the mind........................................
A few years ago, here in Quebec a 9 yr old girl (yes 9) became pregnant by a 20 or 21 yr old guy.Turns out he was a family friend and the parents allowed the girl to live with him as he 'treated her well'?????????
I always have to wonder how closely related these people are when I hear reasoning of the sort.dunno

I have read some of his work...........scary at times.
I've always said that if I had to choose a career path again I would love to get into forensic psychology, physchiatry or profiling.
The human mind is one of the most complicated puzzles.
The problem however of that type of work is burn out and becoming jaded.....u can only witness how low the human race can go before something gives, either you learn to distance urself or u never have a good nights sleep.

rolling on the floor laughing

On the good news end of things.... One of the foster children has discovered how to pull himself up on a chair. .... (scary but in his case... cool)...... the 2 yr old has been making noises, and are close to sounding like words. Considering what he has been through..... it's awesome!

The twin of the little chair climber, is getting over his fever... and is now doing the funny face game. When I say show some attitude and shake my head a certain way, he is now doing it to.

One of the 3.5 yr old girl... managed to sit and eat her hole (wee serving) of supper, and enjoyed her ice cream. It must have been good ice cream because she was singing to it. :-)

The little angel, 4 yrs old with many difficulties besides Autism, came and wanted to sit on my knee, and play patty cake. Might not seem like much to some people, but when a child like this makes a connection to another person, (in a positive way), it is totally AWESOME!

banana banana banana yay yay yay

Dawn, what color casket did you think was the best? Do they come with lining... what colors, and pure silk?

Hope everyone has a great weekend. Take care.

On the way home yesterday, a lady almost gets herself killed helping a family of ducks, a mother a babies get across the road.... Came one and read these two stories in the news.

What is the world coming to????

A 12-year-old boy accused of stabbing his teenage friend to death with a steak knife ........ sad that this is how the world is going.

A 78-year-old man is tossed like a rag doll by a hit-and-run driver and lies motionless on a busy city street as car after car goes by. Pedestrians gawk but do nothing. One driver stops briefly but then pulls back into traffic. A man on a scooter slowly circles the victim before zipping away

The chilling scene — captured on video by a streetlight surveillance camera —The hit-and-run took place about 5:45 p.m. in a working-class neighborhood close to downtown in this city of 125,000.

"In the video, Torres walks in the two-way street just blocks from the state Capitol after buying milk at a grocery. A tan Toyota and a dark Honda that is apparently chasing it cross the center line, and Torres is struck by the Honda. Both cars then dart down a side street.

Several cars pass Torres as a few people stare from the sidewalk. Some approach Torres, but most stay put until a police cruiser responding to an unrelated call arrives on the scene after about a minute and a half.

The police chief told The Hartford Courant that he was unsure whether anyone called 911.

“Like a dog they left him there,” said a disgusted Jose Cordero, 37, who was with friends Thursday not far from where Torres was struck. Robert Luna, who works at a store nearby, said: “Nobody did nothing.”

One witness, Bryant Hayre, told the Courant he didn’t feel comfortable helping Torres, who he said was bleeding and conscious.

The accident — and bystanders’ callousness — dominated morning radio talk shows.

“It was one of the most despicable things I’ve seen by one human being to another,” the Rev. Henry Brown, a community activist, said in an interview. “I don’t understand the mind-set anymore. It’s kind of mind-boggling. We’re supposed to help each other. You see somebody fall, you want to offer a helping hand.”

My sons and my mother gave me hell for calling the police when some one hit 3 cars in our parking lot, and took off, and for the time I called police when some guy was beating up his girlfriend outside my home.
I don't understand the "do nothing " mentality, or is it because if you care to do something, retaliation will happen?

I understand there are times to shut up and stay out of it situations, but........ was the life of the old man worth nothing?

A B.C. mother managed to rescue three of her children from their burning home early Monday but couldn’t get to her last child, who died in the fire.

My heart goes out to this mother. She must be devistated.
