They actually did that in the first year, with contestants (winners from each show, GB USA, Canada, Europe etc, 8 contestants in all) I think a guy from europe won that one. I don't know if there has been one since.

It was held in europe and aired on the BBC if I recall, now what 8 years since the first idol shows? Guess it didnt go over well in the ratings because I haven't seen or heard of one since.

Actually Guess Who are Canadian and they ended up being Bachman Turner Overdrive.
Also there was a World Idol Contest a few years ago where each country who ran an idol contest entered in their best winner. The winner od this contest was Kurt Nielsen the Norwegian Idol contest.
