Had a power outage in the neighborhood last night, a tree limb fell on a power line. I got up and unplugged everything as quick as I could, there was electrical smoke coming out from behind the TV and stereo. It was noon before they got it back on, when it did I found out it took out the TV, both window a/c's, and the cordless phone. I think the fridge may be not working too good either, but it may just be cause it was so hot in here this afternoon. I've got insurance, but it's a $500 deductible. This just really sux!

So sorry to hear of your losses. Everytime a storm comes with lightening and thunder and high winds, which is often here, I unplug all of the plugs to computers, tv, stereo, dvd player, etc. Had to do it before going to bed last night. If the fridge goes, then it goes. I am not unpluggin it.

But, on the bright side, I've still got you all!
Thank goodness you've got insurance ..... sucks about having to pay the deductible, but its still cheaper than having to replace everything. Anyways seem to happen when we can least afford it! Got my own claim to deal with at this moment too.

Update: Just got off the phone with the insurance co. I'm getting a check for $900. I can probably get one a/c and a TV for that. Everything else will have to wait. The fridge is cooling a little, but the freezer part is not cold enough to freeze.
Rick, it blew the transformer on the power line, that in itself should have shut everything off before any damage, but it didn't. Everyone around had some sort of damage in their houses. There weren't even any breakers blown in the house. And the surge protectors didn't stop it either. What was weird is half the stuff on one line was fried, the rest is ok. I don't know anything about electricity except how to flip a switch.

Update: Got the check from the insurance co Tuesday. Got a good deal on an a/c yesterday from AL Power. Also got a new TV at Wallyworld and got it hooked up last night.
They just delivered the a/c, I figured at $55 that would include installation. Not! It's sitting outside the window right now, and I'm still hot! Gotta round up some strong men.
