My little buddy is a red Beta fish.....siamese fighting fish.....I always call him my little buddy....He swims to me and bloats out his gills as if to say Hi....when I look into his tank....I really enjoy my little buddy....I always wanted one and finally got him for myself for Christmas last year....I have read where they can live up to three years in a tank....Has anyone had one longer?
Yes I have had them and you should know that when they blow out their gills it's a defence/attack posture. He views you as a threat. You can get the same effect by putting a pocket mirror up to the aquarium near him when he glimps his image he will blow up and probably even try to make bites at the glass. DO NOT put another one in there becauses they will tear each other apart!...My sister had one for 6 years and she buried it when it died...She couldn't bring herself to flush it.It had a name bit I can't remember what it was...very attached she was!
Thanks....for the info....great that they live that long....kinda dissapointed in the attack/defense posture....oh well can't have it all....I knew from other people not to put another fish with them....unless a female....what color was hers and what size tank did she have it in? This one even had a little air pump with it....
Her's was a beautiful blue. She rescued it from the science lab at memorial university. They were to be destroyed at the end of the term and she insisted on bringing here home. I have had red ones too and they are just as pretty and for Christmas ...What could be more perfect!. I gave her a little hexagone tank with a filter and a bubbler in it. I think those help a lot in creating a better environment. I have seen then kept in wine glasses...I think that's criminal!
I don't like the new crase of putting them in a vase with a plant either....seems cruel to me...they are a top feeder for food and air much of the time....I hope to find mine a much larger tank soon...he deserves the best....even if its all for just him....
Algae eaters are your friends windy. Think of em as doing your housework....Suddenly they take on a whole new light!Ever keep loaches? They used to really freek my mom out...lol
I really like the striped loaches but they freeked my mother out. They are like little eels really wiggly but nicer color than the alge eaters which I still contend are your friend and should be givin much rspect for the dirty job they do...lol. The loaches bottom feed and clean up a lot of garbage too.
